Gets way too hot. Melted out plastic in the waterer.

Kept our chickens' water from freezing even during a double-digit bellows zero (F) cold snap.

We live in Wisconsin so I was skeptical that this would actually keep water from freezing. The last week it’s been below zero temps and I’m very pleased! It keeps the water at room temperature and even in this weather it has kept up and the water has not frozen! 10/10 recommend!

Put the heater in our chicken shed to keep the water from freezing and it did a great job. Got down to -5 F here in Colorado and the 5-gallon water bucket with the water nipples didn't freeze. I went into the coop the next morning and my birds gave me a big Yahoo and round of applause. They look so funny when they smile 😊

Item worked in the cold and kept the water from freezing. When outside temps increased it did not turn off and I found material toughing it smoldering one morning! Be careful when using it. The chickens had scratched the material on to it.I have been contacted by the seller concerning this item and they have offered a refund which is good and appreciated. BUT! The representative, Jason, claimed the issue with my heater was that I did not operate it correctly!!! WHAT? How can I improperly operate an "Automatic Waterer Heater" that is supposed to be safe for metal and plastic waterer and only uses 35W of power and work AUTOMATICALLY? He told me that this device is only designed for use under 0 degrees Celsius! and that I needed to unplug it to give it a "breather" periodically!I am sorry but this is NOT acceptable! Blaming the consumer for the failure of the product is NOT the route to take. They should be contacting their product builder and reporting the failure that nearly burned my chicken coop to the ground! This is a product safety issue NOT a product user issue. This heater, which is supposed to be safe to use with plastic waterers, heated the surrounding area to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and set the material touching it on fire. The waterer I use is metal, so it survived even though all the water was boiled out of it! I do not recommend this product! It has proven to be potentially dangerous to animals and property and when an issue is pointed out fairly and honestly, they blamed me the user of an "Automatic" device for not manually operating it! Buyer beware!

I have a plastic waterer for our chickens just like the one pictured in the ad. Yes the water did not freeze. However 1st time I took it off to fill it a drop of water hit the top of it and it steamed away real fast. Touched the surface and WOW it was HOT! The chickens had knocked the waterer off so it was at an angle and it had melted a spot in the plastic. I fear my chickens could step on it and burn their feet. I will throw this away as I do NOT trust it. My coop is wood and I feel it may burn it down. Save your money. claim of 50 - 70° is wrong. The water should still feel cool to your hand at that temp. This makes the water very warm to the touch.
