This was exactly what I needed. My cable TV output is HDMI, but my old Toshiba DVD recorder has only s-video and composite video inputs. This device works perfectly to allow me to record content from cable TV. I'm using the s-video option.

This is for the HDMI to S-Video converter. I think a few of these reviews may have given the item a bumb wrap. I used this item to connect my laptop to my old Sony Trinitron to stream old movies and shows with. I do some emulation too, but mostly just use it for streaming. I can say that if you are using this for a Roku or Firestick it'll work, but you'll still get bars on the sides or the image won't fill your screen. I have also played around with an Apple TV, but had the same issues. This item is best when used with a laptop or PC. I was able to use a 1440x1050 resolution along with the Ultrawideo (not misspelled) pluggin to produce 4:3 content nicely on my CRT. There are no black boxes and 4:3 content looks as it should. Lastly, some have said the item gets hot, but mine doesn't seem to get anything but luke warm at best. I do keep the converter upside down (vents up) and that may have something to do with it staying cool, but I'm just guessing.I do recommend this converter. Are there better ones out there, sure. However, for the price I'd say this converter is hard to beat.

This device works perfectly for converting a modern PC's HDMI output to S-video. By default, it is set to PAL, which is the standard used in many countries outside of North America. If you are in the US, like myself, you will need to switch it to NTSC, the standard used here. To do this, simply press the button on the device itself to change the setting. This small adjustment ensures compatibility with your equipment and provides a seamless viewing experience.

I think I misunderstood the product specs for this item. Apparently it was not designed to do what I wanted to do, which is take video / audio OUTPUT from an older VCR / DVD combo deck and send it INTO my new smart TV via HDMI cable. In my defense, I think the specs blurb for this product is poorly written. But the folks selling this thing are REALLY prompt, fair, and understanding. They quickly processed my refund request (which should arrive soon...) and did not hassle me at all. Thank you for your kind treatment.

Using a Roku with an older TV with S Video and RCA inputs, it works and gives a fairly good picture using the RCA Composite plugs. It has a push button PAL/NTSC switch that resets to PAL whenever power is interrupted. I then have to figure out why its not working and reset the switch to NTSC, One of the other adapters with a slide switch would have been a better choice for me.

Hooked up to panasonic vhs dvd recorder using roku and s video and rca red and white audio. Picture is not hd but very good. I now burn copies off my netflix and prime streaming. Do yourself a favor and run a dedicated roku to the recorder and plug in a hdmi to tv. Maybe a new dvd recorder with hdmi inputs would work better but this setup works out well for me.

The s-video cable, which should have 4 signal wires inside, is the same diameter as the RCA cables with two wires inside. This may or may not impact the signal quality but it feels stupid to cheap out on an important part of the item. The cables and the squashed aspect ratio (unless your tv has 16:9 mode) are the two biggest problems with this unit (and to be fair a lot of similar products at this price range). If you can find something similar with jacks instead of wires you may end up with a more durable product and better image quality.I wouldn't recommend any of these cheap converter boxes of any variety if you plan to use it with something you can't adjust and fine tune the resolution and aspect ratio on.

The converter has worked very well in the month and 1/2 that I've had it. Make sure that you notice the PAL/NTSC switch. Those are 2 different video formats that are in use around the world. I was about ready to return it because the picture was blurry and rolling, but then I read the instructions and hit the button to switch it from PAL to NTSC and the picture was fine. Also, the power went out today and it reverted to PAL, so it took me a while to find the problem and switch it back to NTSC again.
