This mic compares favorably to my D5 AKG. It’s too close to call. I own many great mics and this is at the very top in terms of sound quality. It’s very smooth, clear all the way to the highest frequencies and has a nice presence. It’s literally a steal at 64 dollars.

A very nice piece of kit which I use for podcasting - something it's ideally suited to in the fairly noisy environment where I record and the very sympathetic way that it treats the voice. Recommended if you can't use a condenser mic because of ambient noise and extraneous sounds.

The Audio-Technica Cardioid Dynamic Handheld microphone is a well-made versatile microphone. I currently have a Sennheiser e-685 Lead Vocal Condenser Microphone and an M-Audio Session Music Producer USB that came with my Avid sound studio software package. All three of these mics have about the same heft and feel to them. The professional level of sound was just as good, if not a bit better than the Sennheiser microphone that cost me twice as much. This is especially important when editing. Most of my work involves sound files for podcasts and voice overs for newscasts, public service announcements and film. The sound levels come in good and strong, and there is a minimum of noise or feedback to have to contend with.It is important to note that this microphone does not come with a cord. Luckily, I had one on hand. You can pick up a cord for very little money, either here on Amazon or at a local music supply or electronics store. Since most of my work goes straight into a computer, this will microphone works perfectly with a mic to USB connection. I did need to increase the sound levels slightly in both the Avid software package and Adobe Audition. However, I would attribute to factors other than the microphone. If you use a microphone stand and clamp configuration, you may need to try a few different ones to get the fit that you want. The clamp that came with this microphone didn't work with the stand and clamp configuration that I currently have, but that wasn't really a great issue for me.If budget is a consideration and you want the high-end quality without spending a great deal of money to do it, I would definitely recommend this microphone. Compared to both the Sennheiser and the M-Audio, it is an excellent, moderately priced microphone and will serve you well for a variety of uses. Professional vocalists and public speakers will like its versatility, while sound amd editing professionals will appreciate the quality of the audio and can spend less time in post production fussing with the sound files.

This is a solid microphone.IN THE BOX- Microphone- Clamp- Zippered soft case- Instruction ManualSPECS- Dynamic, Cardiod polar pattern (it's pick up is highest on the top of the mic, a bit less on the sides, and doesn't pick up from the bottom of course (I attached a picture from the manual)- 300ohm- weighs 9oz- 3pin XLRM- 90-16,000Hz frequency response (pretty flat too)DURABILITY & PRICE- This is a workhorse mic with rare earth magnets and all metal construction. It's built rugged and has some good sound isolation so that movement of the mic isn't picked up as much- It's not their top of the line Mic so not the most expensive but for the vast majority of needs out there for a cardiod mic, this should work nicely- I think it can take a beating and keep performing. It looks nice, traditional and robust

This is only the second microphone I've gotten but it is very sturdy, strong and seems to be built to last, I wanted my niece who sings in show choir to have this and she loves it. It does not cone with the cable but you can purchase one on here for under $10. For somewhat of an amateur, it is better than anything we've used before. This seems like it will hold up over the years and I will update with any sound issues but good so far.

Recording or broadcasting live audio is a complex business. There are real pros in the business, people who command big bucks (and prestige) because they really, truly understand sound reproduction. They spend hours testing and measuring the performance of microphones in their quest of matching microphone and performer to create the most perfect sound. This is not the microphone an expert is likely to choose.Rather the ATM510 is the microphone for the rest of us. It has a proud heritage, with Audio Technica being a leading name in microphones for a long time. It is not a child’s toy. It is a real microphone intended for vocalists, instrumentalists and broadcasters or announcers who don’t have unlimited budgets, but need a good quality microphone. The ATM510 has one extremely appealing feature to me: internal noise damping. You can hold it in your hand without any kind of foam wrapper or a handle and not get noise. Hallelujah! The supplied rubber-like mic stand mount also helps in this rgard.Frequency response is pretty good. I don’t have an sophisticated testing equipment, so I’ll accept the manufacturer’s spec of 90 -16K.The cardioid pattern is pretty effective at minimizing pickup from the sides and back. The unit is compact, the mic measuring just shy of 7 inches long and a bit more than 2 inches around. You can put all you need for a small group in a smallish bag. (The mic also comes with a cloth case. You’ll need to provide a 3-pin XLRM cable in whatever length you desire. In sum, this is a nice mic, especially for people like me, an occasional video maker. It serves for commentary and two-head interviews. Nice piece of work.Jerry
