As anyone who owns/works on 20-30 year old bikes knows, new OEM parts are basically unobtanium. So, we have to resort to aftermarket parts. This is the 2nd time I've purchased an aftermarket carburetor for my 1996 Yamaha Kodiak 400cc 4x4. I have to say that his one is MUCH better than the first one. With the previous carb, the throttle response was terrible! It would backfire and "spit, and sputter.I was really impressed with how complete this kid is. It included a new carb-to-cylinder manifold, and every screw, nut, bolt, washer and connector you could possibly need. When I installed it, I was a little bit less impressed, because the carb-to-cylinder manifold wasn't the right one for my bike. It was too short and didn't have enough offset for the carb to line up with the airbox. Unfortunately for me, I didn't notice this until AFTER installing the manifold and carb, so I had to remove everything, and start the installation over, re-using my old manifold adapter. The good news is that once the carb was installed using my original manifold adapter my bike runs SO much better than it did with the worn-out original carb OR the aftermarket carb that I previously installed. It starts better, idles better, and the throttle response seems much smother, without all the spitting, sputtering, and backfiring that I had with the previous aftermarket carburetor.I haven't actually ridden it yet, but I'll be taking it out for a first test ride this weekend. I'm pretty confident that it is going to be a MAJOR improvement, just based on how it seems to be running so far.Stay tuned for a further update on how well it works!
