I got this for use in acrylic painting. Most of the painting I do with acrylics is on canvas, wood, or miniature figures. I got this brush for work on canvas and wood. It works well on these media. This is a good middle-tier brush that is more than good enough for most studio work and educational settings. The product description is accurate. The brush arrived in two days and in good order. I got it in mid-January and have used it intermittently ever since. It still works well with no frizzing or hair loss. As with many mid-price brushes, the metal ferrule came loose, and I had to glue it in place. Since then, I have had no issues with it. The price compares favorably to similar brushes at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. I would definitely get it again.

As someone with poor grip, I like the matte finish on this brush. The length is a bit too much for me, personally. The bristles are good for dragging acrylic paint with sharp lines. It's a very nice brush for the price point.

These da Vinci brushes are high quality. The bristles all line up properly and few to none were stray. A little hot water can get any back in line that have gotten out of alignment. The brush collet is quality made and fits tight to the brushes and handle. The ergonomic handle gives a very nice hold on the brush. Everything about it quality. Nice flex and feel to the brush tip. 5 stars.

Texture, not on the canvas, but the feeling of this brush in my hand. It is akin to the cheap cartoon newsprint paper feeling. I have a definite aversion to the texture or coating on this brush handle. The bristles are long and appear to be decent quality, but I will not use this brush until either I can paint over or sand down the coating. Barely a three stars for this brush.

I've been 3D printing for a few years and recently decided to try my hand at painting. I have an airbrush for the majority of tasks and picked this brush up for some detail work. I'm new to this, so take that for what it's worth. The brush is longer than I expected, but it feels comfortable in my hand and has a textured feel to it. It also has a little bit of thickness down towards the bristles, which help in the comfort of holding and working with it. I will probably only be using it with acrylics, so for me it was very easy to clean and didn't have any issues with bristles fraying or coming off. Will look for additional tips to complete a basic set for me. Very happy.

So, just to make an immediate clarification, the listing for the da Vinci student 8640 brushes has a graphic for kolinsky sable watercolor brushes. While da Vinci does offer these, this graphic *should not* be on this ad. I've taken 1 star off of this review for that. The brush is just shy of 12" long, and the handle is traditional- wooden, with plain white ink imprint displaying the barcode, UPC, model 8640 series, Forte acrylics, brand, and the #8 info on it. The body features an ergonomic bulge towards the business-end of the brush, and this is really comfortable to hold for long stretches at a time compared to your traditional straight brush handles. The metal ferrule is properly clamped, and the nylon hairs are properly aligned.Although I don't personally like the matte paint feeling on the handle, I understand this will actually help folks who need a better grip on their brushes compared to a glossy finish. For those of you who don't like the feeling either, a gentle sanding will go a long way to help you customize your experience. The bristles being nylon don't need any extra commentary: if you've worked with oils/acrylics before, you know how to load/clean the bristles, and these will take a beating in solvents with ease.Overall, you can definitely expect your da Vinci brushes to last you at least a decade if not longer. My last set is still in use from 20 years ago. The brand is quality, and it's worth getting this series in particular.
