Great set of straps. At first I was nervous as I usually put my boards in my pickup truck. But I sold my truck and have to put it on my mustang. Unfortunately, the mustang is a coupe and only has 2 windows so I was even more nervous. But after a bit of spacing out it works great. On my drive to the beach which is about 40 minutes away and mostly highway, the board did go up and down a bit but didn’t move. So all I did was add a ratchet strap to the front from the leash plug and voila, no movement! It’s solid! I’m sure it was fine without but It makes me feel better.I was going about 65 mph for 30 minutes each way even though I wanted to go to 70 or 75 but it’s fine! Heard their are issues with the rain but time will tell.

They take some getting used to, because they go through the inside of your car, so you have stuff hanging down in your car. I grew up with cars that had rain gutters on the doors, so the soft racks could just clip onto the rain gutters. But with today's cars, I guess there is no other way to do it. They work fine, once you get used to setting them up. Held a 9'6" long board and a 6' short board at teh same time, no problem. One thing that is unavoidable is if yuor car/SUV has rails on teh roof for hard racks, you will not be able to pull these snug against the roof, no matter how hard you try. SO there is a little bouncing going on while driving. But not too bad for local trips.

Bought this rack to hold (2) beginner foam longboards for the drive down to the Jersey Shore. My use case was for a 2015 Highlander with the cross bars. I watched the FCS video several times and read countless reviews before buying this one. It seemed like this would work for SUVs for rails/bars. I ran the pads on top of the bars and the straps inside the Highlander as was suggested. What I was challenged with was securing the rack/pads onto the bar. There seems to be no provisions for this from FCS. I expected it to be simply intuitive, and to some extent it was. BUT, the rack/pads need to somehow be secured to the cross bars (in our use case). And the rack simply would have never, ever stayed on the cross bars had I not used a few zip ties per bar. Then, on the way back, after leaving the rack on the Highlander for the week and subsequently exposing the zip ties to the sun & rain, I had to pull over and try and triage the rack since zip ties were failing under the pressure of driving on the Garden State Parkway at about 65 MPH. Realizing there was no way I'd make it home without more zip tie work, I found an auto supply store and bought a pack of their longest, heaviest zip ties and anchored the rack to each bar in (3) different places with about (7) zip ties per bar. This helped a lot and is probably the only way we can use this rack on that vehicle.Another issue I ran into, again when leaving the rack on for the week and driving in some strong rains, was the rain running into the vehicle via the straps. Maybe the instructions warn against this and I'm just a fool for not reading all the instructions. But if you leave this rack on and experience rain or drive in rail you will get water in your vehicle. The straps absorbed the rain water and then was absorbed by our headliner. The kids were also getting wet as the rain just ran down the straps and into the vehicle like a gutter. So don't leave this on if you are in any extended rain or anything like that as I'd imagine this would happen to anyone in any use case. The D Ring system does work well and is easy to get the hang of and the boards were secure in the rack. It's just the fact that with an SUV with cross bars and running the straps inside, we had issues.

I have used this since June 2013. I surf almost every weekend and during weeks I have off, I use it almost daily. I have used it with 2 8-foot long foam surfboards and a 6-foot long hybrid. It can easily support 4 boards and I speculate even up to 6 boards (depending on the widths.)Tieing the straps down is no problem at all as long as you do it correctly. Sometimes you might get a little noise when driving but that only means you did not tighten the straps all the way. That does not mean the boards aren't secure because they are. It just means there is a little play in a strap causing it to flap in the wind a little.I live in San Diego. I usually drive an average of 13 miles (26 round-trip) from my house to the beach (depending on which beach I hit.) So I have to take the freeways. I drive between 75-80 mph (usually 80.) Never have I had an issue with the boards or the rack moving. Even with the foam boards flexing a little at those speeds, the racks are secure.I mount these on a Mazda3. It's a smallish car. The roof is domed with a slight curve on top. There is also an antenna in the centerline of the roof towards the back. With the racks mounted on top, the boards are clear of the antenna (because it is in the center between them).Because of the thickness of the pads, the curve of the roof does not affect mounting. The boards will never rest or touch the rooftop. The pads are about 2" thick. These pads are great. Every time I go surfing, I keep reminding myself to write this review because I love them so much. I am now finally doing it. If you need a removable roof rack, this is all you need.

This might be my best purchase of the year! It's absolutely perfect and I love it!!About the straps slipping: Please, PLEASE go through the manual and LEARN how to "tie the knot" so to speak. There is a very specific way in which the straps need to go through the rings in order for them to be secured. IF you do it right, it's both SUPER secure AND easy to take it apart once you stop driving. BUT if you DON'T read the manual and DON'T learn the proper way to tie the straps on the rings, then they will most definitely slip. Read the manual, practice a couple of times, then enjoy for life =)Do take it off the roof of your car if you want this or any soft rack to last, as weather and other factors like bird crap can damage your rack over time. This is an amazing rack. Search no more. Just read the instructions and ENJOY!! =D SURF ON!!!!
