We love this thing! I regularly make pico de gallo and salsa type mixes in it, we slice cucumbers, all kinds of goodies. My mother in law is visiting from Poland and is cooking nonstop, and she loves it, too, so we are buying another as a gift!

I had the starfrit model but the gears slips out and only has 2 flimsy blades. Ordered this one and its well built and the 3 blade system is far way better

A nice time saver. 3 to 5 turns make a large salad for two. Guac and salsas are a breeze. Can be served in the bowl once the blades are pulled. The big test was chopping 1 lb of chicken livers with onions and eggs for a pate. Came out nice and smooth, way better than I can do with a fork and a cleaver at a fraction of time and effort. The chopper did not break, although the turning mechanism might have been at the edge of its endurance. I may not fill it all the way to the top next time.Best multilevel blades shape and design I've seen. Easily chops 1/2 to 1 inch daikon and carrots. Top food pieces keep dropping down into the blades and mix quick and well. All the attachments work well too. No plastic smell or aftertaste. Stays put on a wooden board but will move some on a slippery counter.Surprisingly easy to clean considering the amount and shape of the parts. Nothing sticks to those plastics, so when I chop fruits, veggies and other non fat foods a quick rinse is enough. To clean oils and meats just wipe with a soapy sponge and rinse with hot water. About as easy as cleaning a fork and a knife. Won't even risk using a dishwasher.Feels like it would last years if used gently and sensibly without excessive force. It is not exactly made of titanium, but still saves a lot of time even when I work it slowly.Extra careful with the blades, especially when washing the main triple blade. All are very sharp and may cut quicker than one may feel.

I cook twice a day, almost every day, and I love to do it. However, I don't like appliances. I don't even have a microwave. I have a manual coffee grinder and a pour-over coffee pot. I make popcorn with a hand-cranked stovetop popcorn maker. I even make whip cream with a hand whisk and a metal bowl. No kitchen stand, no hand mixer, no immersion blender, no blender at all, actually, and until I bought this thing, I had nothing that resembled a food processor, making all of my salsas, salad dressings, hummus, baba ghanoush, and various sauces by hand with a knife, a whisk, a masher, and a whole lot of patience. This not only keeps kitchen clutter to a minimum, but provides lots of opportunity for quality time with my wife, as we hang out and cook together sometimes for hours. It never feels like a chore, and because there aren't things grinding and buzzing and otherwise making a racket, it's even become the calmest room in the house.I've always known that there were hand-cranked food choppers like this one, but figured they weren't built well, were gimmicky, and because they have all those attachments, would take up too much room in my precious empty cabinets. But there are some things that I always wish I could truly blend. Tahini is my best example. Oil, sesame, blend. Very difficult to do by hand if you don't have a mortise/pestal, and I don't, but was about to buy one, when my cheese grader broke. Since this included one, and was only $20.00, I indulged.So far, I'm quite glad I did. This thing, with very little effort, blends and chops as well as any manual food processor I've used or seen, but with less noise. I'm sure it depends on what you're using it for, but I've used mine so far for salsa, guacamole, salad dressings including many with emulsified nuts and garlic, tomato sauces, pastas, and various sour-cream based dips, thanks to the paddle attachment, which is my favorite part after so many years of hand-whipped creams. The slicers are nice, too, though they make me nervous. They're quite sharp and the thing you use to push the veggies isn't foolproof and honestly doesn't always work. Still, I use them, just carefully. I've no use for julienne anything, so that one's out, but the grader is great and the slicer is, too, especially if you don't have a mandolin.So if you're like me and don't like electric appliances doing your work for you, you'll find this little guy to fit the bill nicely, without being too costly nor fancy. It's straightforward and leaves the joy in cooking in tact. My only gripe is all that plastic. Perhaps it's impossible to make the equivalent from metals and glass, but if someone ever did, I'd gladly pay 20 times what I paid for this one. But since it's plastic, $20.00 is a fine price.

For years I've canned various salsas, most of which were made from chopping all the vegetables by hand, which even if a person is only canning a couple dozen pints is a long process. Last season I had bushels of tomatoes to get through and not nearly enough time to chop. I'd heard of salsa makers but never had actually seen what one could do so I started doing research and watched a few videos which pretty much sold me. Then I came here and found this one.As soon as it arrived we were ready to start on our first batch. My son and I worked on that one together, me prepping and him chopping. It took us about thirty minutes to fill a sixteen-quart kettle. Later I had to get a batch ready without any help, and again I filled the sixteen-quart pot, by myself, in less than an hour! Since it worked so well with that I tried it with a batch of cucumber relish and it worked a treat!As if being one of the handiest tools in the world for canning season isn't enough, we've used this to chop vegetables to add to tuna, potatoes for hash browns, and vegetables for all types of salads plus onion for just about every dish we've cooked. (I do not recommend chopping carrot, however--when I tried that it bent the blade very slightly).After a few uses it did take a couple more turns to chop because the initial super sharpness of the blades started wearing down slightly, but don't be fooled--those blades are still so sharp it takes not much more than touching to slice a finger, and that's after we put up dozens and dozens of jars of salsa and use it several times a week for prepping for regular meals.I've really no idea how long this will hold up to the type of use and abuse I give it but even if it's only two or three canning seasons it will be money well spent in the hours saved from chopping everything by hand.
