I bought an expanding hose on Amazon nearly a year ago on Amazon that much to my chagrin suddenly popped for no real reason. I got hosed!! It was a couple of days beyond its return period, so I bitterly coiled it up on a shelf in my garage with a plan to repair it some day.So of course I forgot about it and it hibernated in my garage for 9 months. Once watering season came back about a week ago, I pulled it off the shelf and threw it in the trash when I was reminded of its popped spot. I was browsing random items on Amazon a couple of hours later when I saw this kit. I ordered it and rescued my hose from spending its remaining days in the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. This was super easy to put together. Zero instructions came in the box (a small set of step-by-step pictures on the box would be nice for what order and orientation to attach the parts), but the video in the item description helps out a lot (just ignore the first few seconds where for some reason they show a hose attached to a tap filling it up). I dipped the tips of the internal rubber hose in really hot water for a few seconds which made it easier to stretch over the metal ends of this connector. It all fit together very well and the materials have a solid feel. It only took me about five minutes to put together. So once I had them together I had two fully-functional collapsible hoses. There is no leaking and each hose works like new.Considering the price and quality this was a very good deal (much lower than what a new hose would cost). I also really like that I didn't have to waste the 98% of the hose that was still in great shape. I recommend this clever item if you need to fix one of your collapsible hoses.

Cloth-covered collapsible hoses are becoming very popular. The fact that you can have a lightweight 33 foot hose and stretch it out to over a 100 feet is a pretty compelling thing. Collapsible hoses are constructed of a loose cloth outer jacket with a stretchy latex rubber tube in the core. It's this inner rubber tube that often fails, usually near the ends which receive the most wear and tear.Conventional DIY repair methods usually consist of a bulky and sharp stainless hose clamp covered with duct tape. This can be effective, but is horribly ugly. If your hose failure is near the ends of the hose, this kit provides an elegant way to repair your expensive hose resulting in an invisible repair. It will be hard for anyone to know that your repair is not original equipment. The shutoff valve is real bonus. If you are at the far end of your 100-foot hose and you want to change nozzles, or perhaps mount a different type of sprinkler, it can be quite a hike to go back to the other end to turn off the water. The valve allows you to quickly turn the water off and on again so you can quickly change the attached nozzle or sprinkler without getting drenched. The kit I received does not include any printed instructions, but the Amazon listing does have extensive step-by-step illustrations of the entire process. I think anyone with basic handy skills following these instructions should be able to make the repair.I am a little puzzled about why the little roll of Teflon tape is included. The tape, which is usually needed for joining threaded pipe fittings, is really not needed for any of the hose repair steps. The use of the tape is not described or shown in any of the instructions. So I'll just consider it a little gift that I can use on another project.Compared to buying a new hose, this repair kit is cost-effective. The brass and nickel plated brass materials are the same that are used by most durable plumbing fittings and should outlast the life of the hose. This repair fitting can probably be removed and used to fix another collapsible hose in the future.

It gets tiresome working with a 100 foot hose, running back as forth from the faucet to control water flow. I needed a ball valve with a female garden hose thread to use at the working end of the hose to control the rate of flow and stop it completely when needed. From the vendor photos and descriptions, it appeared to me that this valve might have a garden hose thread at each end, with screw in adapters to fit it to a 'telescope' hose if needed. And it is close to that; it has a female hose thread on one end with needed adapter, but the one male end has a smaller thread size and smaller diameter which fits the special adapter used on that end. The smaller end is apparently used when you are repairing one of the so-called 'telescoping' hoses and is designed with a barb that fits into the inner core of these hoses. So this valve is indeed perfect to repair one of the cloth-like hoses, and does allow it to adapt to a 3/4" hose. While I would have liked to have the 3/4" size on both ends, this still works for me since I can use the 3/4" female end to screw into my 100' hose, and use the valve for flow control, and just leave the other end bare since I have no real need to connect another hose to it.It is a clever design if you have one of the fabric, expanding hoses and have a need to replace one or both ends if they have become damaged and need replacing. Although I did not use this function of the valve, the design seems sound and it should work. I'm happy that it meets my needs as well due to the removable barb adapters; and if needed I can use the repair function in the future, and I can even attach a length of plastic hose using the barb, there are lots of possibilities. For now, I'll only be using half of the adapters and the valve part and I'm happy with that.
