In the late 1970s, Peter Haselhurst, an Australian hockey player and physics student, started experimenting with fiberglass and resin to repair hockey sticks that kept breaking. He found that the repaired sticks were not only more durable but also provided better performance on the field. As a budding entrepreneur, he began selling these re-engineered sticks to local players, eventually co-founding the company and brand GRYPHON in the early 1980s with teammate Richard Charlesworth.
