If you're new to Japanese planes, I think this would be great one to try. I'm a hobbyist and use the 3 standard Japanese woodworking tools. Pull saws (changed my life), chisels, and planes.I have 3 very old planes (pre-WW2 ) but this is my first time purchasing new.First impression is that it's well made. Nice weight for the size and it feels good in the hand. The wood is properly sanded and the edge chamfers are perfect. I'll do the mandatory set-up process these things require but I can see the quality and don't expect any surprises.I was skeptical about paying less than a hundred bucks but there wasn't much choice. It seems they're either low cost or high cost with not much in between.I'll know in a few days if I made the right choice.
