Bought these to fine tune key copies after we tried to make key copies using some key cutting pliers (which didn't work by the way...so I'd avoid those). These worked great but the key copies still didn't work because the key cutting pliers didn't work. BUT, if you just need some metal files like these, these are GREAT! Good price and small...great for detail work AND they come in a nifty little case!

I'm a beginner in locksport and am trying my hand at impressioning keys. I bought these for that purpose. Naturally, there are different shapes in this set, which I can see will be useful with my new hobby. One of the metal covers on one of the handles came off, so I just super glued that bad boy. Files are quality otherwise. Good buy.

The flat files have like, no meat to them at all. The half round is fantastic, so is the square. The rest, are... eh.

Good quality, very useful for small project, like the varied assortment of shapes and sizes

PROS:They work quite well and have enough variety in their shapes that I can do all sorts of filing on wood, plaster or metal.CONS:The handles are a little on the small side for my hands. For the flatter tools I find myself gripping the metal instead of the handle because it flexes a lot when I apply pressure.

These are some dandy little files! They're smaller than the picture makes them out to be, about half the apparent size. I should have realized that as it says as much in the description but apparently I didn't read carefully enough. This is a set of KEY FILES. The itty-bitty kind you could imaging people using to cut teeth into keys.So yeah. Silly me. Anyway I wanted them to be a full set of files with all the useful set of shapes one could expect to use in a wood shop and in that respect they don't disappoint. The round, triangular, and square files are cut from round pieces of stock about 2 millimeters thick and are symmetrical. The tapered and square end file are cut from flat stock about 1 millimeter thick and are a bit flimsy feeling. One is straight and the other is somewhat bowed. Both have a safe side and a cutting side. The Half round is the most substantial with a blade about 3 millimeters thick and as is the best suited of the bunch for flat filing. All of them are double cut - if a bit shallowly on the flat ones - cut quickly and have excellent bite, no slop or flopping around with these. They won't remove lots and lots of material due to general size but are very good for refining shapes.I used them to finish the handle of a wooden sword that came out blockier than I would have originally liked. It was hilted in the same way as a traditional sword with a cross guard, grip, and pommel and I had absent-mindlessly wedged - same function as a peen in metal - all the components into place to test the hand-feel of the blade. It was tolerable, but not excellent and the corners near the cross-guard and pommel definitely needed work. Having cut the wedge and no means of extracting it without ruining the blade meant that I had to work on the grip while it was mounted on the blade, a job where these performed wonderfully. I was so pleased with the results that I went ahead and re-profiled the grip into a more hexagonal shape and the responsiveness of the blade and comfort in the hand have both improved in a very satisfying sort of way. I won't say I couldn't have done it without these files but it would have been sufficiently inconvenient that I probably wouldn't have bothered. The fit and finish on these things aren't as good as they could be - the collars for one are pressure fit and off easily - but there's nothing damningly flawed about them. They are what they make themselves out to be and do what they do pretty well, for less than fifteen dollars. That's a steal in my book!In Summery:Features:6 files: round, square, triangular, flat, flat tapering and half round. All are double cutFlat files have a safe and a cutting sideSmall sizeComes with a reusable plastic sleevePROS:+ Cut fast+ Cut cleanly+ Good bite+ Leaves smooth surface+ File blades firmly seated in handle+ Handles comfortable enough that you could probably live without replacing+ Very affordable (Good stocking stuffer for tinkering types)CONS:- Flat files are somewhat flimsy (one of mine is slightly bowed)- Teeth on flat files are rather shallow (nail file much?)- Collars are press fit and fall off easily (fix with glue)- Handles are small (choke up on the blade and it feels perfectly fine: better than a bare file)- Handles appear to have been cut with a dull blade (wood tear-out is apparent but thankfully is sanded down and more or less smooth to the touch)- 'Safe' edges aren't finished (they are rough enough to cut into wood but not nearly as well as the side with proper teeth)Would I recommend these to a friend? Certainly!

Wonderful addition to my craft tool box. These small files do work that cannot be done with regular size files.
