I thought I'd give the HT HOMETINKER Marble and Granite Repair kit a whirl to fix a few issues that have been bothering me on my granite countertop and fireplace fascia. I'm fairly good with household fixes, so why not? I admit I was a little disappointed at first because the box is smaller than I expected. Who knew there were so many color combinations with just 4 little pots, lol? My granite has a lot of colors in it so I figure this would work well and it did. Please note that a little goes a long way, especially when mixing the colors. Patience is a plus. Be sure to follow the included instructions and let it cure for 12 hours before putting the repaired area back into use. I found this kit fairly easy to use to reattach a corner of my fireplace hearth, fill in another area that had chipped as well as an area of the granite lip around the sink perimeter.I appreciate that this kit is non-toxic and eco-friendly. I'm not only impressed with this product but I have to say the reason I decided to attempt this was because they said in the description that they stand behind their product. I mean, who would put that out there if they didn't feel secure, right? I'm so glad I tried this repair kit on my granite. Even though I didn't do a perfect job, my eye isn't drawn to those little 'spots' anymore.

I have experience working with resin and mixing different pigments into resin. So I’ve never used an epoxy product before, so having some familiarity with resin did help!I scratched our soft soapstone/ moonstone countertops. Whoops. It was only a matter of time my husband discovered the triple scratches, and gave me the “look. ” If you have a spouse you can picture the look I’m speaking about right?Anyway, I decided to give this kit a try and waited until the coast was clear, rather than spook him by saying I was going to get a kit and DIY.Directions were very helpful and it is actually quite simple!1) I used a disposable paper cup, and put on better disposable gloves. The gloves in the kit are huge and thin plastic, so I prefer my surgical type gloves as it’s easier to mix everything together.2) I do wish there were more colors, but I made it work.3) On the instructions they said the colors were highly pigmented and you only need a toothpick dot of the color. Use caution opening the color jars as it’s like a liquid paint texture, and not a powder. I thought I’d need more than a toothpick dot of color, so naturally I used a bit more. I was VERY wrong, they were right, and a teeny tiny amount goes a long way!4) I made the first batch way to blue so I kinda freaked. Next to me I had some mild cleaner in a spray bottle, so I sprayed it on and used the 1,000 grit sandpaper (with the cleaner) so the sandpaper was damp/ wet. Happy to say that ALL of the blue came off, AND I didn’t scratch my moonstone/soapstone countertops either! And while cleaning up the blue, I accidentally got a glob of tan on the countertop, and that was removed too! Phew!5) So on attempt #2, I used a bit of tan mostly black into the blue in the paper cup and fixed my first color match mishap.6) I found dapping the toothpick into the cup was better than the flexible yellow putty knife thing for these particular deep scratches. I had less product excess because its was a thin area to fix.7) However when I did have excess epoxy, I repeated the process again with the cleaner and having the area and the 1,000 grit sandpaper wet too, and all of the excess epoxy was removed. This would have cost quite a bit of money to have this professionally repaired. Many years ago we had a chunk of granite chip during the installation of our countertop. The company fixed it for free and they are pros at fixing issues like this all the time.So could I do just a good of job as the pros can? No way. Let’s face it times are tight, and I don’t want to spend money on the pros coming here to get scratches fixed. Besides it’s a small job for the pros anyway and where I live, I’d have a hard time finding a company that would come here for this.So this kit was the perfect solution for saving money and I do recommend trying this brand!

This is a comprehensive kit for hard surface repair and a much more affordable option than hiring a professional (which can be tricky to arrange for small repair jobs anyway). While it’s not a perfect solution, it works better in some scenarios than others. For instance, I think it’s more effective on busier granite designs, where any imperfections in the repair are less noticeable. The process is straightforward: mix equal parts of the epoxy and add a touch of color to match your surface. However, you’ll need an eye for color and a bit of skill in mixing the right shades—there’s no formula provided. The kit includes four paint colors—black, yellow, red, and green—which are sufficient to create virtually any color variation. A word of advice: the colors are highly pigmented, so start with just a tiny dot and build up as needed.Matching the finish can be challenging, as it’s tough to replicate the exact texture or sheen of the material you’re repairing. For example, I used this kit to fix a chip in the corner of a quartz countertop. Since it’s a corner (not a flat surface) and the counter has a delicate design, the repair isn’t an exact match, but it does make the damage far less visible. I plan to try again to improve the match, and thankfully, there’s enough epoxy for multiple attempts. The kit comes with all the tools you need, including sanding discs, which is a nice bonus. Just be prepared for some trial and error, and don’t expect flawless results. That said, even professional repairs aren’t always perfect—I’ve seen a costly Corian counter repair at a friend’s house that still had its flaws! All in all, this is a solid product for those willing to experiment and DIY their repairs. Recommend!
