Very good idea but didn't work for us because the connecting ends are so short. But I will add that our home was built in 1900 so the doors here are a bit different from more modern ones.

I couldn't reprogram it. The combination locking numbers were so small it was impossible to operate.

Depending what you want it for, it works great as a hasp, the numbers are a bit little, I used it though until I got a different product, it is worth trying, just beware of smallness of it

We have a storage locker in the basement and needed something to put on the door. It was easy to put up and like that you can put a code in it instead of a key(which I tend to lose!)
