I added these puck screens to my espresso routine and now my morning brew is smoother than a dragon doing tai chi. The fit is perfect for my portafilter, and cleanup is as easy as convincing a raccoon to steal snacks—fast and efficient. These things help distribute the water better, so no more coffee grounds going rogue and ruining my shot. Plus, they feel sturdy enough to survive a tiger’s tantrum. Just don't expect them to do your tamping for you—they're screens, not sorcery.[Disclaimer: This review is for "Meet Great- 2 Packs 51mm Espresso Puck Screen, 1.7mm Thickness 150μm 316L Stainless Steel, Upgraded Reusable Coffee Filter Screen for 51mm Breville Portafilter Filter Basket". They fit perfectly in my 58.5mm portafilter and do a great job of distributing the water more evenly through the coffee bed. I've noticed fewer signs of channeling and my shots taste more consistent now. They're sturdy, easy to clean—just a quick rinse or blast from the steam wand—and help keep the group head much cleaner, which is a bonus I didn’t expect to appreciate this much. Just a heads up: if your machine has a screw sticking out of the brew head, you might want to double-check the fit.

These are very sturdy and thick but too thick to lock the portafilter in place if loading a 10 gram or 20 gram shot..I had to return them and get an ultra slim screen. I use a Breville bambino for reference.

I use these in a bottomless portafilter on a Breville Bambino. They are thicker than expected, but still allow puck expansion. I am seeing more consistent extraction and tighter pucks. These definitely keep the brew screen clean. Not strictly necessary to make good espresso, but they help.

Work great and fit my 51mm portafilter perfectly…Pucks come out just as they should if your grind is right. Only thing is the screens get very hot, so be careful when you handle after pulling a shot.Totally keeps your unit’s shower head free of grinds and helped a bit with controlling my machine’s flow.Highly recommend !

After spending a few days testing these with different baskets, I’m not convinced they’re the right fit for my setup. At least not without changing my usual prep.I’m new to making espresso, but I’ve been refining my espresso routine and generally get consistent results. That method usually gives me an even extraction and a single spout. So in theory, the puck screens should be easy enough to introduce into my setup. You just prep as usual and then slip the screen on top of your prepared puck. Easy peasy! At least that's what I initially thought. However, in actuality, once the puck screen was added, I saw some unexpected results. Here’s what happened:Day 1: Used Breville’s dual-wall double shot basket with 18g (grind size 10). Disaster. Espresso overflowed with excessive crema. The scale went wild. Numbers jumped back and forth from 60g to 32g before finally settling. The taste was bitter and undrinkable.Day 2: Switched to the single-wall Breville double shot basket with the same prep. Got a triple spout, but the shot tasted noticeably better.Day 3: Tried an aftermarket basket with a 20g dose (it can accommodate up to 22g on paper). This one gave me a double spout and decent pressure. Extraction time was fine, but the flavor was underwhelming.Day 4: Same aftermarket basket, but used 18g. Finally got good results. Single spout, yield was a bit low, but the taste improved. The screen measures 53.17mm in diameter and 1.73mm thick. That’s close enough to spec that I doubt it’s the issue. What may be causing trouble is how tight the space is between the puck screen and the group head on my Breville Barista Express. The screen sits so close to the top that I suspect it may interfere with water dispersion. Using less coffee helps, but it comes at the expense of yield. My standard espresso prep includes single-dose grinding 18-20g of coffee, using the MHW-3BOMBER WDT Cyclone Tool for distribution, a gravity distributor, and a self-leveling Normcore palm tamper. That process normally yields a clean single spout without the need for a puck screen.I’m not saying these particular screens are bad. It could be my prep method, the machine itself, or simply the way puck screens in general interact with the limited headroom on the Breville Barista Express. I’ve since ordered a differently designed puck screen, and I’ll report back once I’ve had a chance to test it. For now, though, I can’t say these were a meaningful improvement in my workflow. They clean up easily enough, but fishing them out of the knock box can be a hassle. Still, I’m curious to see if screens can influence flavor over time, so I’m willing to keep experimenting. This particular model might be more useful for those troubleshooting their setup or working with machines that offer more clearance. For my situation, though, it's a well-made product that just doesn’t add enough benefit to earn more than three stars.
