For the price, this is a good boundary microphone for relatively close work. Set it on your desk while you’re in your chair and it’s fine. I wanted something for a group of 7 at a rectangular table. The person farthest away (about 8 feet) sounded the same as if using the mics built into the computer. So, if you want a mic for just you or maybe 3 people sitting fairly close together, this is a nice solution.

this is better than many mics of this style, but the audio quality — volume specifically — is still too low for general table-top use. the build quality is amazing overall, tho ... too bad it's not good at the one thing it's supposed to be good for: table-top mic use ... even at 2 feet, it's still too low to use.

The MXL AC-44 grabs audio clearly even when the talker is 25 feet away. Build quality is excellent. Reasonable price. One of my favorite microphones due to its performance and simplicity.

I'm not a sound engineer, but I have installed three of these in a noisy environment primary to voice control two computer systems.I think they are an excellent value. For conference calls they're da bomb. Voice control? All I can say is the weak link in the chain is definitely *not* the microphones.

This is a condenser microphones for meetings. The microphone measures approximately 3”x2.5”x1”. It has 2 ports on the bottom, one for USB C and one for 3.5 mm Aux. Also included in the box are a USB A to USB C cable, piece of adhesive Velcro mount, and a paper instruction sheet.I am very impressed with the quality of this microphone. We are using it for a hybrid meeting where there are in-person participants and Zoom participants. We tried doing this meeting with just the computer’s built-in microphone, but it couldn’t pick up the sound from the participants in the room well enough for the computer participants to make out what they were saying. This MXL microphone changes everything. Now everyone can hear clearly. I have tried 6 other conference microphones over the last year. Some worked OK. Some didn’t work at all. This one performs much better than any of the others. Overall, this would be my first choice for a computer conference microphone, especially for professional organizations.

I normally love the sound and quality of Marshall products but the sound quality of this MXL AC-44 mic is quite disappointing. It is so disappointing that I suspect I may have possibly received a defective device. The biggest issue is that recorded sound is too quiet. This is regardless of volume, gain setting, interface, or operating system. I tested on several machines and results were consistent across the board. I also tested in the MS Teams device configuration utility and sound quality was abysmal. In Teams it sounded both quiet and muffled. I’ve tried every tweak possible, and I also used several different headphones as well as PC and external speakers. I wanted to rule out every possibility that other hardware or factors were the cause. Nothing I tried made this mic sound better. I searched around online for others with similar experiences but did not find anyone else reporting the issues I encountered. Had I purchased the mic, I would have exchanged it to verify I do not have a defective device, but I do not have that option since it is being reviewed through the Vine program. I wanted to share my experience just in case there are any others who encounter the same issues. Performance quality aside, the size is small and perfect for mobile use. The metal body has a solid weight and feel and seems durable enough to withstand frequent transport. It is a great sized mic for a desktop also because it’s small and can easily be slipped aside out of the way while remaining connected. Most desktops don’t have a built-in mic, so it’s handy when needed and small enough to stay out the way when not needed. There is a thin layer of foam underneath the mesh body to protect the internal condenser circuitry from moisture. A windscreen or pop filter is suggested if the mic will be exposed to greater moisture exposure risks like outdoor elements or users who regularly speak within close proximity of the mic.

While this is not the purest sounding microphone that I've tested as far as audiophile studio quality, where this shines is in suppressing background noise. As a test, I turned up the TV volume and I spoke into the microphone from a few feet away about the same volume as the TV. I could barely hear the TV in the recording, but it picked up my voice nice and clear. So this microphone is tuned to pick up voice frequencies. This makes it ideal for business use such as a conference room or noisy office environment where you want to separate the speaker from what's going on in the background.MXL is owned by legendary audio equipment maker Marshall Electronics. Overall, this is a solid computer microphone for serious business use.

MXL is the microphone arm of Marshall, the famous amp, speaker and headphone manufacturer. MXL manufactures a wide variety of USB microphones, ranging in price from $75 to $500. MXL is not an especially fine manufacturer of microphones. Their mainstay is podcast quality mics in the $100 range. And that's precisely what this mic is: podcast, Zoom, MS Teams-quality in a microphone, fine for use by professionals, but not a professional microphone. MXL suggests that this be used for making medical transcriptions. That could be a good use. It is sturdily made of an all-metal frame and mesh. it's small and can easily fit in a briefcase or sit below a monitor.Basically, this is a three capsule, 180-degree microphone made to be powered and record by being attached to a computer via a USB-A to USB-C cable (included). It is also possible to use a USB-C to USB-C cable, but that must be ordered separately.Sound capture quality is good-to-excellent for non-professional purposes. The usage case for this particular microphone is tied to its diminutive size: good sound at a conveniently portable and discreet size.
