Well made, not flimsy. Each side has a clasp so you can choose if you want the brim up or down. Can be resized a little inside the hat. Came in a bag that forced it to have the brim up on four sides, which seems odd if you don't want it to warp, but it shows no signs of it when you make it a tricorn.

I'm an avid gardener and sometimes I sweat through two hats within hours in the Texas sun. I'm always looking for toppers to keep the sun out of my eyes and off my head.It's good as a tricorn, but right now I need sun protection and it's good for that, too. It's easily adjustable to fit various size noggins. It's sturdy and generally well assembled. There are a few spots where a straw "stick" pokes out about an eighth of an inch, but it's not noticable when being worn. Also, since it's convertible, the snaps of the tricorn style are visible, but not at all obnoxious.The brim is the perfect shape for keeping the sun out of my eyes. It's sturdy and not overly large. It also breathable which is important in the oven that is Texas.Whether you wear the hat as a tricorn or a sun hat, it's very reasonably priced. Glad to have it.

Going to use as a base for a pirate costume for ren faire. It's a great fit, which is sometimes hard as someone with a bigger head. The material is the reason it's not five stars, it definitely feels a bit cheap. But that's not a deal breaker. And with some added fabric and such, it'll look great.

I work for a living history museum so I'm VERY familiar with straw hats of all kinds! I also do millinery and designed costumes so my review will reflect several ways the hat can be used for different levels of costume purposes. Overall this is a well made thick straw hat for a good base. The hat is ACTUALLY straw verses some type of paper/polyestery mix!!! Price is great too for the hat!!!One day event or Occasional Use: Perfect. There is a string in there to help fit the hat onto different size heads. So as advertised 5 stars.Play Costume (longer than one day for a run):The hat band is made of a knit polyester so if you plan to wear if for a play or a longer period of time I might change out the hat sweat band. But for a day or occasional event it's not a big deal. Can be used as a decent blank and maybe able to hide the snaps with trim on the outside brim.Reenactment:Y'all know what you are doing more than me. Carry on. I'm probably going to use this as a blank to make a ladies decorated tricorn.Notes on ANY use:I would be VERY gentle with the snaps. I would not just rip them apart. Being a straw hat you don't want to pull them out of the straw. I hate to see such a nice hat be trashed by mishandling it.The hat arrived in a square shape. I know that it's meant to keep it more contained for shipment but I tried to open it up to get some of the kinks out of it (which honestly weren't too bad). I eventually took a spray bottle and gently misted it. When you are making straw hats you wet the plates when sewing them. You don't want to soak it because there maybe finishing soaked into it that you don't want to wash out. But a light misting or seaming to wet the straw so you can gently get it flatted out. We usually will use press clothes on both sides of a straw hat and use a good steam iron but a quick mist and let it sit flat on a table if you are picky about getting any kinks out.

When this arrived, it was stuffed into a square box, and had been forced into a square rather than triangular shape. We got it out and pushed it into a roughly triangular shape, but the snaps wouldn't hold it, so we hung it in the shower and let it steam. This loosened it up enough that we could reshape it as a tricorn, and the snaps help, although they have a tendency to pop loose if at all stressed. Once we had it set up, it fits well and looks good. It seems to be a good quality hat, other than the annoying packaging. Decent value.

I got this to wear to an event at which we work in the summer. Having a good sun hat is imperative for this work, and this hat will make a fun addition to my collection.I'm putting together a bit more of a costume to bring this hat out. This is going to be a great look, and the fact that the snaps will allow the hat to flatten to a more normal brim for extra protection is great! I can always snap the edges back up if I want.The only reason for the 4 stars, instead of 5, is that the snaps are a bit weak and release too easily, as well as some roughness to the construction. Otherwise, this is a great novelty hat!
