If you are a backpacker and you travel with your pack via airplane, you likely will have to put your pack in checked luggage. This pack protector is what I needed for an upcoming long-haul trip with multiple flight segments (thus, multiple plane changes). Ensuring my pack was safe, protected and intact when it arrived was critical. This rugged Airporter Protector Bag was the solution.

For years when traveling to go on backpacking trips, I would shove all of my gear into a large piece of checked luggage. This protector completely solved that and is significantly lighter and easier to transport than a large piece of luggage. I love arriving to my destination and all of my gear is already packed in my backpack, I just have to pull it out of this protector. I purchased the medium size and it's more than large enough to fit my 65L bag fully packed, plus there's still some extra room for me to throw an additional pair of shoes or other gear on top of it before zipping it up. Has made airline travel with all of my gear a lot easier and convenient. Would surely recommend to anyone who travels with gear to go on wilderness trips.

Let's be honest - Traveling with a backpack can pose a unique set of challenges. Is it too bulky to bring on the plane? What about all those straps? You get the idea. This marks my second purchase of this product. I've got two sizes to accommodate my backpacks: a medium one and a small one. I've found these to be a fantastic solution for securely packing my backpack when embarking on international journeys, whether I'm carrying it onboard or checking it in as luggage. It has eliminated my worries about fussing with each strap and the time it typically consumes, not to mention the hassle of untying them upon arrival. What I truly appreciate about this bag is its self-contained design. Unzip it, open it up, place my backpack inside, and I'm good to go. It folds up easily, is lightweight, and takes up minimal space within my backpack. It's practically perfect. My sole disappointment is that it only has a single carrying strap. I would prefer two straps for a backpack-style carry, but instead, I have to sling it over my shoulders, which I find somewhat awkward, even with the adjustable strap. One thing to keep in mind when purchasing is that they run a bit large. My Osprey 48L backpack fits comfortably in the small size.

I needed a bag to check my Gregory Focal 58L backpack on a flight. Other reviews led me to believe a small one of these would just fit my backpack. I purchased this, and was happy to see that it did indeed perfectly fit my fully loaded backpack. It's a bit heavy and awkward for the brief time it has to be carried into the airport, but I wouldn't want it to be any more substantial than it is, since I had to fold it into its internal pouch (very nice) and carry it with me for the entire hiking trip. It is also nice how the shoulder strap tucks into a pouch on the bag for when you check it. The material quality seems very good, and this bag just worked perfectly for what I needed.

There's cheaper ones out there. Bite the bullet and get this one instead. We covered out 70+10 backpack with the medium size cover. Fit perfectly. A large would have been WAY too large. We used the backpack to travel the UK for 35 days. Survived unscathed from 2 flights and numerous train trips. The ability to fold it up into its own carry pouch is genius. The stitching, zippers, and construction are really good. Its shoulder strap unsnaps at one end and stuffs into a flap at the top. Airlines really do not like loose straps. If they get caught in something during handling, those machines will rip the strap off and ruin your cover. Osprey stuff is worth the price of admission. Just remember they run large.

Does what it's supposed to. I took my Osprey Atmos 65 to Europe for two weeks, and was concerned that all of the loose straps/buckles would not play well with a three-legged, transatlantic plane journey. No major issues there; everything was intact. Two minor issues: The medium feels way oversized for the Atmos 65. That said, when I take it hiking this summer, I think it will "absorb" my rolled up inflatable mattress quite nicely, in which case it will end up being perfectly sized. But just for the pack alone, it was "sloshing around" inside of it quite a bit.Which leads to minor issue #2, which is that this thing is awkward as heck to carry with a full pack inside of it. Slinging it over your shoulder is worthless: It will bang around your knees. When we were scurrying through JFK trying not to miss a connection, I basically drug it by handle across the smooth floor tiles, as if it had wheels. The only reasonable option is to carry it with the side handle, which is less awkward, but not a great weight distribution when carrying a full pack inside. Other than that, you should plan on not draping it over the backpack until the VERY LAST minute when you are about to check it, so that you can use your backpacks normal shoulder straps to tote it. And if you're not going to check your backpack (hence the name "airporter"), then I have no idea why you would buy this product. But it's a good design: It rolls up into itself quite nicely and is relatively compact. Glad I bought it.
