These sketchbooks were shown to be for painting or dry media and when they arrived I could see immediately that the surface is too porous for water based media. On the sketchpad covers it more accurately indicates that they are only for dry media. For that they are generous in size and fine...a good choice for color pencil or oil pastel as the surface is not too rough. Something between hot press and cold press paper.

My regular sketch book that I buy locally has 50 lbs paper so this is a bit thicker. It's still sketch paper and not card stock, but the thickness is perfect for sketching. The only remark is that the paper color is more grey than white. The pictures show it compared to my Artist's loft sketch pad and regular printing paper.I checked if it said anywhere that this is grey sketching paper, but it's not saying.

These 2 spiral drawing pads are insanely great quality paper. They are heavy duty and the size is not too big that becomes difficult to carry around to draw in different places. The spiral bounding is heavy duty metal and, in my opinion, will not bend out of shape from use. It might if someone stands on it.Another thing I like is that it has 110 pages. Much more than other sketch books that have only 50 or less pages.Perfect for those who love to draw, young and old, beginner and advanced. One of the things I learned in my sketching class is that it is ok to find a picture you would like to sketch and trace the outlines of the picture and the shade the rest of it to match the picture. This is how professionals and fine artists do it.I highly recommend these sketch books for their good quality.

Okay if you're just trying to stock up on sketchbooks, artists go through a lot of paper. Fair warning, these are not "Heavy Weight Paper" sketchbooks as the covers proclaim. At 68# (100 GSM) these are literally the same type of baseline sketchbooks you can obtain from virtually any store. That doesn't make them bad, just NOT Heavy Weight. They are still good for light duty dry media and preliminary sketches, but don't expect high quality paper.

This are great sketchbooks. The paper is thicker which helps prevent markers from seeping through when you use them. The size of the tablets is awesome for larger sketches. I recommend them for the budding artist in your life.

The price is right for the quality and quantity. However, the paper is only a step up from coloring book paper. It's not heavy or even medium weight paper. I wouldn't call this professional or even student grade. It is good for someone who wants to doodle or school age kids who can go through a sketchbook quickly.
