The Encreese Self-Retractable Fall Arrester 17FT Double Locking Fall Arrest Protector Fall Protection Gear, Dual Alloy Steel PPE shell Heavy Duty Hook Cable Wire Rope Roofing Lifeline Safety Lanyard is great peace of mind for safely working at heights. I have several of these devices for varying heights and use them in precarious situations for Arborist work. They allow you to safely work and move around while up high with ease while maintaining fall arrest protection. They're sturdy and durable and prevent high speed jerk which can cause serious injury during a fall with static safety lines. I'm extremely satisfied with the quality of the Encreese self-retractable fall arrester and consider it an outstanding value!

So far so good with this fall arrester. Now I haven't fell off my roof with it, but I did test it in a controlled situation and it seems to perform nicely. It is a bit big and heavy, but it will also last. Overall, I am very happy with it.

Being in construction with a large portion of our business being siding, fall protection is something we deal with every day. We have several retractable "yo-yo" lanyards of varying sizes. This one is far less expensive than the "name brand" ones we have, so my expecatations were fairly low. But overall I'm reasonably pleased with this one.It does weigh noticably less than the more expensive ones, but most of them have a metal case vs the plastic on this one, so that likely accounts for a lot of the difference. The plastic does seem to be a decent quality, but only time will tell how well it will hold up to the abuse of the construction world. Also, these typically have a shackle and a carabiner to connect to the anchor point, but this one has a short length of rope between them. This is a length of braided double-braid rope with abrasion guards, but I have concerns about it's long-term durability. I'm not sure why it is there to begin with - my assumption is it's for shock absorption - but if it get's abraded and no one notices, it could create a hazard. Personally, I am going to cut the rope off and just add a carabiner directly to the bracket to err on the side of caution.Aside from those critiques, the lanyard appears to be pretty well made and operates as expected, and it claims to meet the relevant ANSI standards.

After tearing off and redoing a hip roof, I’m eyeing the rest of our roof, and the Encreese 17FT Self-Retractable Fall Arrester feels like a must-have. This thing’s a key safety piece—dual alloy steel shell and a heavy-duty hook on a wire rope lifeline that locks tight if I slip. The double-locking system gives me peace of mind; I’ve been up on steep pitches, and knowing it’ll catch me fast is clutch. The 17 feet of range lets me move around without feeling leashed, perfect for roofing’s constant shuffling. It’s built solid—PPE shell feels tough, and the cable’s smooth to reel out and back. Haven’t tested it with a fall yet (fingers crossed), but it’s held steady clipping in and out. Only nitpick? The weight’s noticeable after hours up top. Critical for safety and well-made, but a lighter design would be gold. If you’re tackling a roof job solo or with a crew, this arrester’s a solid lifeline to keep you from eating shingles.

I don't have a large number of scenarios where I need a fall arrest, but having a multistory house that I do a lot of DIY on, it's a huge piece of mind to have this on hand. I tested it out from a short distance up a backyard tree and it works exactly as advertised, with the arrest brake kicking in in less than a foot. The device is relatively lightweight, housed mainly in plastic, but the steel arrest cable itself is close to indestructible. One of those extra devices you hope you'll never need but are happy to have on hand.
