This is on the small side but I prefer that because it's easier to pick up and put out of the way when not in use. I had a bigger one from another company and, while my kids liked it better, I prefer this because it's easier to move around.The cover is basically just like the one that's already on it when it comes. It adds extra protection I guess, but it's mostly just like having two outer shells of the same material.
