Nice kit. Only complaint is the proofing jar should be twice the size it is. Your starter tends to rise over the top. I suggest a quart sized jar with a matching sized cloth lid.

I got this as a gift for my daughter. She’s getting into baking and wanted a starter set. A good quality set at a great price. Easy to use, great functionality.

This has everything you need to get baking sourdough bread. Love it, love the wood, love the banneton, perfect perfect perfect. So many tools included in the kit, I can't wait to use this for a long time!

Package of 5 blades came with only one blade and a lot of empty paper. The dough whisk also fell out of the wooden handle when washing before use, which may be a function of the tool - but seemed kind of questionable quality?

I got this as a gift for a friend to get them started on their baking path. They used it to make a few sourdough loaves, and this Banneton Bread Proofing Basket Set was the perfect choice! The presentation is beautiful, making it feel like a really thoughtful gift. It comes with everything needed to start baking beautiful sourdough loaves, including two different-sized baskets - a 9" round and a 10" oval, cloth liners, a dough scraper, and a lame-for-scoring. My friend was impressed with how many pieces were included and how well they all worked together. They've already used the set a few times and are thrilled with the results. The baskets give the dough a nice shape, and the liners make it super easy to get the bread out without sticking. They said the dough scraper and lame are really helpful too, though they probably won't last forever. But honestly, this set is an amazing value for the price, and those pieces are easily replaceable anyway. If you're looking for a fantastic and affordable gift for a sourdough enthusiast, look no further! This set is definitely the way to go.

I was so excited for this comprehensive starter kit, but the glass mason jar completely shattered during a gentle stirring just one day after arrival. It’s obviously not high quality glass and I’m now questioning the quality of the other tools in the kit. I cut my finger from the broken jar and have a totally useless key element of the kit.I cannot send back for a refund due to the broken glass, but I will consider modifying my review if a replacement mason jar is sent promptly as a replacement.

I was actually looking for a sourdough starter jar that had a temperature thermometer read out on it and I also needed another banneton (proofing basket) or two so when I saw this kit that had those components plus a few other things which I didn't have, I figured I would give it a try. I've been making sourdough bread for a couple years now and I already had most of these components but didn't have the stencils which seem like a really great creative idea for creating a design with f l o u r on the tops of your loaves. I also didn't have a silicone bread lifter but I'm probably not going to use this because I don't like having silicone in contact with my food especially at High temperatures. The rest of the components are good quality. For somebody who's just starting out in the sourdough bread making world, this would be a great starter kit. You may eventually want to get a dough hook with a longer handle since this one is a bit short and also I would definitely get a different plastic scraper because this one that's included with this kit is too rigid. Plus having the rounded edges on a plastic dough scraper makes it so much easier to get your dough out of the bowl so this one with the sharp corners and very little Bend to it won't be very easy to use. But the metal bench scraper is really nice and the linen looking liners for the bannetons are also nice & well made. Overall a great value, I think instead of having to buy all of these components separately. Oh, and another thing to keep in mind when you're looking for bannetons, pay attention to the dimensions because so many of them that are sold online are tiny tiny tiny. The ones that come with this set, which I verified before ordering this kit, are a good size. The oval one is a little on the small size widthwise but lengthwise is good and the round one is a good diameter for medium to larger loaves. I typically make three to four sourdough loaves at a time because of the amount of time needed for the whole process and I already had three bannetons so these two will give me more flexibility when sometimes I want to make round and oval loaves at the same time. The little brush for brushing out the bannetons is also a nice addition..I saw some reviews on sourdough starter kits where people were complaining about the fact that they typically don't come with sourdough bread making instructions. Trust me, if you're just getting started learning how to make sourdough, you're definitely going to want to watch a bunch of videos on youtube. I personally found that the best total beginner (to more experienced) starter videos were the Food Geek Master recipe videos. He makes the whole process very clear and simple. Some videos & methods are so convoluted and overly complex, it can be a massive deterrent for people just getting started in this realm ... but once you get through the basics, it's actually very enjoyable ...and the level of creativity and flavors you can Master with all kinds of different Ancient Grains, (especially if you have your own f l o u r Mill to grind your own f l o u r), the flavor profiles that you can get out of your sourdough breads are just phenomenal. Start off with basic organic white flour to get your feet wet in the process and then start integrating some of the Ancient Grains to get even more complex flavors and healthier more nutritious loaves. :-) if you find these tips helpful, please let me know by giving this review a thumbs up. Thank you!
