I am no stranger to VILTROX lenses. I own several of them and really like them. I own their 13mm F1.4 Lens and 33mm F1.4 Lens. These lenses are well made, typically using metal where other third party lenses might use plastic. And, best of all, VILTROX is the only Fujifilm third party lens manufacturer that I know of that has autofocus capability with Fujifim cameras. All other third party Fujifilm X-Mount lenses (as of this writing) are manual focus only. The VILTROX 28mm F4.5 Pancake Lens almost follows in the VILTROX tradition. I say almost because, unlike their other Fujifilm compsatible lenses, this lens is primarily made out of plastic and it has no manual focus capability. There is no focus ring. It is autofocus only. It has no aperture ring. The lens is fixed at f4.5. It can't accept filters because there are no filter threads on the lens. Heck, it doesn't even come with a lens cap. Instread there is a lever on the lens that slides a protector in front of the lens. That lever is the only thing that can be adjusted on the lens. With all these limitations, why the four-star review? There are severaL reasons:First this lens makes a terrific companion for some of Fujifilm's smaller cameras. You can't get a lens much more lightweight or compact. The pancake lens weighs only about 60g. When attached to my Fujifilm X-A7 camera it almost majes the camera into a compact, shirt pocket camera. (See the attached photos.) The lens is inexpensive but the image that it produces is decent. Not great, but certaiunly useable.Especially on a small lens like this, for me, having no lens cap is a plus. Small lens caps are hard to put on and easy to lose. I simply keep the VILTROX 28mm F4.5 Pancake Lens on my X-A7 all the time making a camera body lens cap unnecessary. Finally, it has autofocus. Putting an autofocus motor into a lens this small is not an easy undertaking.Don't expect this lens to give great bokeh or allow close focusing on objects. Neither will happen. And don't expect tack sharp photos especially if thery are heavily blown up or if your are pixel peeping. Also be aware this is a full frame lens. So with a 1.5X crop on an APS-C camera, a 28mm full-frame lens has an equivalent focal length of 42mm. That makes it more of an intermediate lens than a wide angle lens. It's something to keep in mind. What you get with the VILTROX 28mm F4.5 Pancake Lens a very compact, capable autofocus lens that does a credible job at an extremely reasonable cost..
