Used the suitcase one time on a flight from JFK to LAX. One of the wheels would 'stick' every 12' that I walked and broke off while walking to the rental car shuttle at LAX. Wheels are too flimsy in my opinion.

This is a solid carry-on size case (which is unnecessary, since you can't carry-on wine bottles) with very protective foam inserts on both sides of the clam-shell. The cut-outs are for standard red-wine bottles, with no alternative cutouts for white wine or champagne bottles or alternative wine bottles. This is the case's failing.

Nice and sturdy I don’t plan on using it for bottles to be honest but it’s a great concept if you do need to travel with a lot of bottles.A little expensive in my opinion

Ridge appears to know what they are doing in the marketing department. They have already shown how the case handles in a general drop, kick, and car slam test incident. All tests shown the contents of the 12 wine bottles in tact and undamaged. Anyone planning to travel out of country, state, or even just a local whine taste event can find this case to nicely protect the goods. The inserts that protect the bottles can be removed if you want to transport maybe 6 bottles and the missing half of the case be used for basic travel options. In any event, you could even remove all inserts and use the case as a bare bone travel case. All options are on the table and this case is capable. Planning to test my own whine travel experiences this summer for Italy.

I haven't tested this luggage yet and will certainly update accordingly. So, my assessment is based on the look and functionality that I can observe. At the time of ordering, this was priced at $299. It's currently priced at $199, which I think makes for more serious consideration if you're on a budget. Compared to higher end wine luggages, this one is more no frills and it shows. For example, there are no built in straps on either side of the luggage to keep the foam tight and in place. The foam themselves do no provided options to customize different length of bottles you may wish to transport nor is it as thick as the higher end competitors. There are no extra corner guards and the overall thickness of the shell of the luggage itself is not as solid and thereforedoesn't seem as solid or sturdy. You can certainly push against it and there is more give. So, I worry about its exterior durability. Not surprising, there is no mention of a warranty and certainly not a lifetime warranty some other brands provide. In summary, it may last and work in the long run - only time will tell.

I take a lot of wine tasting trips as well as produce my own wine, so I typically either limited the amount of wine I carry back or ship bottles from the vineyard. This suitcase adds a few different options since it can either be used to securely carry twelve bottles as checked luggage, or be split into a six-bottle transport and an extra suitcase. The two halves are sectioned off by a zippered lining on both sides, so everything will stay put on its own side. The foam wine padding is entirely removable from either side, or even both sides if you just want to use the suitcase as standard luggage. The foam is dense and protects bottles well, and there are extra foam panels that fit between the sections and even protect the bottles from the retractable handle on the inside (foam divider shown in second picture). Obviously twelve 750ml bottles of wine (9 liters) is pretty heavy, but it comes in under the 50lb limit for checked luggage. The suitcase also has a built-in combination lock, handles on the top and side, and footings along the side edge to keep the suitcase firmly planted on its side. It works well in both roles as a suitcase and a wine shipping container.

This is a sturdy, convenient and unusual item. If you are a person who travels a lot with wine, spirits or anything else that's bottled, this suitcase solves the problem of figuring out the best way to pack them. The high density foam protects the bottles from breakage by holding them securely in place. You can remove the foam inserts if you end up needing more space to pack other items. It weighs under 50 lbs when fully loaded, which is within airline regulations. It has a TSA approved combination lock that you can set and reset as often as you like. The wheels roll smoothly and the handle is fairly secure without a lot of wiggle to it. The shell seems quite durable and the zipper works smoothly and appears to be of good quality; I wouldn't expect it to break with minimal use like some inferior zippers seem to.Even if you don't fly a lot but you do visit local wineries, take this case along with you to safely transport your purchases home. Maybe you're providing several wines for a wine tasting at someone's home-this is the perfect way to arrive with bottles in tact and only having to make one trip from the car to the house. This might not be an item you ever thought of, but once you know it exists, you might just have to have it because it makes so much sense!
