Great sound but the hot shoe is wonky. Does not have a solid bond to the camera, falls out of the hot shoe often. The mic sound itself is great. The stereo selection choices are a nice touch.

I’ve owned this microphone since 2023. Whenever I forgot a 3.5mm cable or my other mics failed, this one saved me with its 32-bit internal recording feature. The sound quality is decent—it depends on what you're comparing it to. Some videographers I work with use microphones in the $1,000–$2,000 range, so it’s hard to compare. For my social media work, though, it’s perfect.

No, it's not the best ever made. But, the best I've tried. I think I would like it if the M3 just records the RAW recording. I'm always grabbing the baked recording and formatting, and I wish it gave me one file. It splits the file into 1.99GB files, file system is exFAT. About 93mins in one file. There is no gap in audio when you connect the files together in post. It has buzzing audio when I connect to a power bank that my camera is connected too, no buzz in audio if on its own power bank.

I originally bought the M3 MicTrak to record live outdoor sounds on hikes but I also found it useful to record live music when I don't want to set up multitrack recording. I prefer the stereo spread between 90-100 deg. Beyond that, the pickup pattern and volume of the side elements becomes increasingly non-linear.If you load a track into your DAW and it appears to clip, (beyond 0 dB), use the "M3 Edit and Play" app to reduce the dynamic range. Load the RAW file into the app, select the desired stereo spread and Export with the Normalize box checked. That will produce a stereo file that doesn't go above 0 dB. I have not clipped the mic elements themselves. On one very quiet recording I had to use a noise reduction function in my DAW to reduce hiss but in most situations preamp noise was not an issue. The foam windscreen included is not adequate when the wind reaches a certain level outdoors. I had to shop for a furry windscreen that will fit. The short shogun element doesn't have the range of my long shotgun but it fits my cameras and picks up well for people close by.This is not the best mic in my kit but it's a good value in situations where I want a simple and portable recording in stereo and the ability to edit the spread in post.

Used this with an iPhone 15 Pro Max to do a live stream of a wedding. The sound quality was incredible and we were able to connect it to the iPhone via the USB-C to USB-C cable. It comes with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable for legacy systems.

PROS:High-end recording sound for the price.32-bit lossless audio recording via cable. Can connect via cable to cameras, phones, or computers.Internal recording to SD card possible.Audio recording in RAW format.CONS:Spoiled by the lack of practicality due to the lack of an automatic power switch.Battery operated (not rechargeable).Inconvenient user interface with too many buttons and complicated combinations. This microphone needs to be updated for modern times, if the company does, we would be looking at one that would dominate the boom microphone space.

I've used this on dozens of marching and concert band performances both indoor and outdoor. The 32-bit allows for full fidelity bass and treble response without clipping overall volume (especially seen with loud performances like DCI). The stereo adjustable spread (via app) allows one to neutralize unwanted noise from lateral fields. Audio files easy to sync with video in post (Final Cut Pro).Shock mount in delicate, but easily replaced with third party solutions.

If this existed years ago, I would have saved so many recordings. It sounds great as a boom mic, on camera mic, desktop voice over, etc. Internal recording is wonderful, but the sound quality out of the box is top notch.

Tried tascam and sennheiser, then this.Tascam did not have a “zoom” feature.Senheiser was noisy. This unit is sufficiently directional, while delivering g remarkably good stereo sound. Imaging was comparable to on-stage microphones in concert recording project.

Be sure to check your serial number. Early versions of this device have a problem with RF shielding and you’ll have interference on your audio track if too close to an antenna or power source.See Zoom’s website for a free replacement if you have an affected serial number.Mine was replaced in about a week!Otherwise, this is a fantastic device and makes capture a breeze! I have several other Zoom 32-bit capture devices and they’re a lifesaver!!As a bonus, the shock mount also fits a Sennheiser 416!
