This lets me split out a stereo 1/4" cable into separate mono plugs carrying the left and right sides of a stereo signal, which is a form of connectivity and adaptability I had wanted in other adapters and didn't get. This does the job, and that makes me happy. However, at first I was a bit dismayed, because when I tested it, I did get independent stereo separation--just backwards. The left channel was coming through the red side, even though it's been standard that red stands for right, and has been that way for decades. It was a relatively minor inconvenience, just annoying and easily addressed by switching the plugs--but it did confound me. I wondered if I could cover or paint the mono ends with the correct colors, and upon inspection, I saw that the colored parts were removable. They're a flexible plastic, I don't know if it's silicone or what, but they slid off with ease and I switched them to the appropriate sides. It was such an easy and surprising fix that I figured, sure, it still deserves five stars.

This splitter/joiner can pass two signals into a TRS input, typically populating a left and right channel. It can also separate a stereo output into its left and right channels for further processing.These Y cords are really handy. Ultimately, you want to funnel your incoming signals into the format native to your mixer or interface. The goal is to use fewer cables like this one, but they'll always be around. This particular Y-cable appears to be built well. The stress relief is molded and fused to the wires, and the connectors are appropriately heavy and click solidly to their counterparts. I expect I'll be using this in my home studio years from now.

If you need to convert a quarter inch stereo signal into two mono channels this is what you need. Quality seems pretty solid, works fine no added noise
