This dethatcher seems to follow a pretty standard design for inexpensive, plug in dethatchers. It accomplishes the basic function of spinning the tools around. Assembly is very easy and straightforward, and swapping the tools out is very easy.I ran into some issues using this tool for the first time. Part of my experience was hindered by not having cut the grass short enough, so plant matter got stuck in the rake and wound up slowing down/heating up the mechanism. While this is clearly a skill issue, I do take exception to the fact that as the rake got clogged, the housing for the bearing assembly quickly heated up to the point of melting. I think that the housing should be constructed of materials that aren't so quick to destroy themselves in slightly less-than-ideal situations. That said, I think I'll have a much easier time with this machine after mowing the grass shorter as is recommended, as the rest of it seems to work as intended. I like the fold-up design which makes it quick and easy to store as well as move around. Overall I think it's a good thing to have, I just think a few cost-cutting measures should have been avoided.

If your lawn needs heavy work then it would be better to pay someone first to do this with a real machine, then use this for maintenance. The thatch bag will be filled constantly and you likely will get frustrated and just leave it on the lawn if your yard is as bad as mine. You then have to rake it up, but still far better than trying to do everything with a thatch rake. It not only gets a lot more, but it more evenly breaks everything up. I go crisscross once in both directions with raking up everything in between and I am good for the year. The scarifier works even better where my dogs tend to tear up and compact the soil and I reseed pretty much yearly. This gets the seeds started much faster and more evenly. I would buy this just to reseed or overseed. Again I do a crisscross pattern once in each direction after I mow as low as possible and call it good. This doesn't aerate as much as it just slices nice grooves. You really need a plug type of machine for the best aeration, but for seeding it does a good job. Biggest complaint is the cord, but for the cost I can put up with it as it only gets a few uses a year. Longevity is the real test and I can't give a good opinion. I wish the handle was a bit longer, taller people will be bent over, thankfully it isn't a weekly chore.

It has been a real joy using this dethatcher to pick up all the dead grass left over from last season. I honestly had no idea how much was sitting in the lawn until I gave it a pass with this machine. The 2-in-1 design is super convenient. Switching between the dethatcher and scarifier functions was quick and saved me from having to store yet another bulky tool. Assembly was straightforward and it worked right out of the box.The 15-amp motor is powerful enough to tackle thick patches without bogging down, and I appreciated the depth adjustment feature. It made it easy to tailor the settings based on what part of the lawn I was working on. The adjustable handle was also a nice touch for comfort. Now for the one downside. While the 45-liter collection bag sounds good on paper, I found myself stopping to empty it more often than I would have liked. That is really the only reason I’m knocking off a star. It’s not a deal breaker by any means, and your experience may differ depending on the size and condition of your lawn, but I do think there’s room for improvement there. One tip I’d offer is to use a brightly colored extension cord so it is easy to spot in the grass. The machine’s performance is only limited by the length of your cord, and you do not want to accidentally run it over. All in all, this is a solid tool that delivers on what it promises. If they ever offer a larger bag option, it’d be a five-star product without question!

This dethatcher and scarifier is lightweight but very effective. It comes disassembled, yet it is simple to put together when you follow the directions; it takes about 15 to 30 minutes to put together. The scarifier blade, which has solid metal bars, comes installed in the unit, however the dethatcher blade, with metal tines, is included and can be installed if desired. I found that I like the scarifier blade the best because I needed to displace some moss and break up the grass and it worked great. The rear discharge bag is nice to collect the scraped up moss, grass, and dirt but it's small and fills up quickly. I decided to pull the bag off and let the loosened grass and moss clump up on the ground and I used a blower to clear the mess afterward. The electric motor is powerful and rarely bogged down, but you will need a long extension cord if you have a larger yard. Since it is corded, I suggest starting close to the power source and moving away in a parallel pattern, that way you don't have to keep moving the power cord and risk running it over and having to untangle it from the rotary tines, yes...the cord gets pulled in quickly. This is great for small to medium sized yards of an acre and less. I find that this is easier to get out and maneuver than a tow behind dethatcher on a lawn mower. I'm impressed that this light weight unit performed so well and stayed powerful from start to finish.

Don’t buy it. It’s horrible. Doesn’t work. A rake works better.
