These clamps are a type of quick release clamp for 12 volt battery type posts. What happens when you lift up the cover, is it releases the clamping mechanism on the terminal post and you can easily remove it at that point in time. When the cover is pushed down while on the post, the lever action tightens the clamp onto the post and locks it in place. The wire clamping side has two bolts and nuts on each side of the cable clamp and when tightened down, squeezes the wire between the two halves. Note that it is someone on the lighter side of things, and not as heavy duty as I would like it to be. And one of the mechanisms was bent up when I first received it, and would not properly release when I first tried it not on a terminal to begin with. I had to straighten out slightly the curved copper that is supposed to open up when in the open position.This type of clamp would be ideal if you need to swap batteries in and out quickly.
