These are theoretically supposed to reduce blade and drive belt damage when your mower inevitably hit a rock, etc. Whether or not that's true, you still need them to operate the mower and you won't find them at a better price. I've learned to keep a couple of sets handy as the Timemaster is frequently in need of repair.
