Given that these are intended to be able to be used on a plane, they of course need to be relatively small.That being said, to use this as a stool for camping or comfort under any other conditions, you might do better with other options. I'm a fairly average build guy, 5'-9", 150lbs, and these held my weight sitting on them just fine, but they were very low to the ground and not quite wide enough for my backside.As a footrest, it's okay. If you can see in the Amazon description pictures, there are two sort of "divots" or scoops in the top where your feet naturally slide into. I rarely sit with my legs tightly together like that even on the plane, while being as conscientious of the other passengers as I can. So, a bit uncomfortable as a foot rest for me, but again on a plane your options are limited.I like that it can be used as a tote. It does have small openings that do not seal together tightly when unfolded, so small items could fall out. Larger items, kids toys, a towel, fruits or veggies, etc. would be fine. It's easy to clean inside and out which is important after being on the floor of a plane. I suppose it could be used as a very limited "sit pad", but there is no cushioning to speak of, and the surface area when folded is not exactly a nice square or rectangle.When folded, this might not fit in a smaller or more compact backpack in say a laptop sleeve, so be aware that this may have to go in a larger size pack or carry on.

These collapsible footrests are a really clever design. Very strong when popped open yet fold flat to almost nothing when collapsed. When I'm the passenger in our campervan, my feet don't comfortably touch the floor - this is the perfect solution! I love that it stows away to take up hardly any space! And the fact that you can attach the handles and use it to tote things, so useful! I might even use one as a small garbage can in the van. I'm also planning to use one for air travel. Way better than the inflatable footstools, and a lot better than putting my dirty shoes on my carryon as a footrest. Definitely a handy and useful set to have. 5 stars!
