I ordered this to work on my espresso puck making. This type of portafilter with the open bottom will quickly show you your flaws. (As you can see from the picture I have many.) It is well made and made from heavy quality materials. There is a definite learning curve with this, and I have a long way to go.

I have a Olygrin espresso machine that does not take the portafilters that have thicker ears on them. This is a issue with a lot of cheaper machines you will find. This one locks up correctly on my machine with no issue. The filter it comes with works fine and is held tightly in the portafilter. I find my other baskets have no issue working in the machine either, and they pop out with a push to clean. The handle is a nice polished piece of wood that has a good length to it. I also found I could swap it out for another handle of a portafilter that did not fit my machine to give it a more distinct look.

This portafilter fits my Lertin brand espresso maker well. It is just a little tighter than the original. I live the wood handles because it is easier to hold and looks nicer than the black plastic on the original. I find that this filter is just a little easier to fill without the pouring spouts on the bottom. It is less likely to tip over when pressing the coffee into the filter. There is one issue; there is more splash from this than the original portafilter. I switched to putting a taller cup under it and that takes care of the splash better.

Perfect fit for my machine and nice looking wood handle. The basket included takes a 16g dose at most which is unfortunate because I use an 18-19g dose for a double usually. Luckily my existing baskets fit and work fine so I'm using those instead.

This 51mm portafilter is constructed well and has three locking tabs in the standard configuration. It will fit most generic espresso makers that use three-eared portafilters, along with the brands the product description mentions.The bottomless option helps you diagnose you espresso shot issues so you can ensure that you're using a correct grind and tamping method regardless of what sort of portafilter you use most of the time. However, it is certainly much less forgiving than a double-walled basket with a spout.
