Very aesthetic portafilter! Works great when dry, but if there is any moisture still in the group head (e.g. directly after pulling a shot), this portafilter will work itself out of the group head and get coffee everywhere. Otherwise works great, cleans up well and gives a fairly even extraction for good beans.

Bought this in an attempt to level up my espresso making. It's been working quite well. There is a noticeable flavor improvement since there is no closed bottom to capture coffee oils during the brewing process, like there is in the stock portafilter that comes with Breville machines. Being able to watch the flow of the espresso during the brew is helpful to understand if your preparation needs adjusting.I've seen some comments and poor reviews left that note, "this portafilter sprays coffee everywhere." If that's happening to you, it means that your preparation needs improvement: you may need to change your grind, add an additional method to your prep (Google "dwt coffee method"), adjust your tamping pressure, or perhaps all three. When you've figured out your preparation, you shouldn't observe anything spraying out of the bottom of the filter. If you don't have the desire to try different methods/trial + error to figure out how to make your espresso better, a bottomless portafilter from any brand will simply be an exercise in frustration for you.The build quality of the portafilter appears to be nice. It was a little bit of a tighter fit in my machine than the stock portafilter, but it eventually settled in. The first few times I inserted it into my machine it made me a little nervous that it was potentially damaging the group-head. The wooden handle is nice and feels comfortable to use.The one complaint I have with this portafilter aligns with what several other folks have mentioned: the handle easily comes loose (unscrews) from the head. The handle on the portafilter I purchased came loose the first time I locked it into my machine.I believe this to be poor machining tolerances in the threads that attach the handle to the head. I applied some blue threadlock and let it sit overnight, and that seems to have corrected the issue. For a $60+ kitchen tool I don't think this is excusable. If the price were under $40, I would understand. Heck, if it was $20-$30 I'd probably be surprised if I didn't have add threadlock myself. At the current $60 price tag, it's my opinion that the manufacturer should have figured out a solution to prevent the end user from having to remedy the issue that others have experienced. All told, there aren't many options that appear to be a slam-dunk for bottomless portafilters that work with Breville machines. I made an assumption that paying a little more for this one would result in a product that better matched the tolerances of the stock Breville portafilters, and didn't have handle issues. Those issues aside, this portafilter is an upgrade from the stock Breville, and has helped me learn how to make adjustments that have improved my espresso.

Works but it feels cheap and flimsy to use

This Matow handle is priced in the middle of similar products. The metal ring is of polished stainless with the standard machined lugs fitting perfectly into the Breville group head. The wood handle is a dark brown with a almost black grain variety in a matte finish. The handle will need to be tightened down when you first receive it by simply turning it once mounted in the group head.Frustrating at times, using a “Bottomless” filter holder will reveal any flaws you may have in your espresso coffee making technique by allowing you to see visually the coffee as it is pressed out of the basket. Tracking the variables of grind size, distribution and tamp pressure will help diagnose and correct the variables toward pulling the perfect cup of espresso.

So the handle is very nice, sturdy, etc. But a major problem is the filter baskets will not remain in the portafilter when removing it from the group head.I haven't even tried to pull a shot yet. Just from placing in the grouphead, leaving it a few minutes, and then removing - and upon removal you'll notice the filter basket isn't in the portafilter... and is in the grouphead. When comparing it to the stock Breville portafilter, you can see their portafilter has a good amount of resistance that will keep the basket locked in place. Bummer this product isn't like that. I could not imagine dealing with this everytime I pull a shot.

Bought this portafilter for my Bambino Plus as I wanted to use a single wall basket and a naked portafilter enabled me to dial in my shots with ease. First couple of shots sprayed everywhere so worked out pretty quickly i needed to grind a lot finer. After some tweaking found the sweet spot and now my shots are great.Just a warning to others, if you don't have a grinder then this probably isn't the worth buying as you really need to be able to adjust your grind size to get the best out of this portafilter and avoid it spraying everywhere!Build quality is great. Really nice finish on the handle. Got the 53mm calibrated tamper from MATOW too and the woods match nicely.

I’m using this with my Breville Barista Express BES870XL. It worked perfectly on my first try. I’m glad I purchased a good quality distributor/tamper tool previously. While using it, I don’t get any channeling and I get the pressure gauge to be just where I want it. As with any portafilter and filter basket, make sure they’re completely warmed up prior to use.

Great item. Fits Breville Bambino perfectly, and works best with Matow funnel to collect grinds. Well made, with basket fitting tightly. The wooden handle feels lovely, and is longer then standard which makes it easier to get more leverage. Contrary to other reviews, it does work well, however it forces you to perfect your levelling and tamping to achieve an even extraction and prevent splashing.

Fits perfectly in my Breville barista pro. Nice to have a bottomless filter for finding out your weak spots in getting a proper load and tamp. Looks pretty, Wood is a nice accent. I’m pretty happy with this, chose it because it’s $20 cheaper than the crema one. Would recommend.

I’ve enjoyed using this portafilter with my Breville Bambino so far. The longer wood handle makes for a nice upgrade from the stock portafilter. I also really like getting visual feedback from the open bottom to know if the extraction is even. As an added bonus, it’s much easier to get the filter basket out for cleaning. Just push out from the bottom. I would certainly recommend this product. Please note that the Breville Bambino comes with double wall filter baskets. I’ve been using Breville single wall baskets. This portafilter comes with a single wall filter as well. While you could put the double wall baskets in this portafilter, it defeats the purpose of the bottomless design.

Just got my bottomless portafilter for Breville Barista Touch. Fully satisfied. Well-built, fits my coffee machine no problem. The wooden handle looks beautiful. Can be dis-attached when you wash the metal part/s. Put some mineral oil on it, looks even better.Brewed my first espresso with it. Was able to get a decent shot. Keep in mind, bottomless portafilters can get messy. It all depends on your tamping skill. Try the original basket instead of the included one; might improve the result... Of course, do not use pressurised baskets with it.Downsides? Hard to tell... The handle screws out too easily. Make sure it is tightened enough.Have fun with your shots!
