Mower Blades

LawnRAZOR Blade Type Comparison

Mower Blades

Mulching Blades

  • Great for the toughest jobs, heavy duty mulching for tall grass and weeds.
  • Toothed mulching blades are the best option for clearing thick mowing conditions
  • Not great in overly wet conditions as the small particles this blade creates can become pulp like.

Mower Blades

High-Lift Blades

  • Best option for bagging or throwing grass clippings a long distance.
  • Performs well in thick grass but requires more horsepower for optimal performance.
  • Not optimal in Sandy or loose soil conditions.

Mower Blades

Medium-Lift Blades

  • Best option to be used as an all-in-one solution.
  • This blade is typically very close in lift profile to the original blade that came with the mower.
  • Bag, mulch, discharge, this blade will do it all.

Mower Blades

Low-Lift Blades

  • Lowest lift and suction available. Primarily used for side discharge only.
  • Performs well and has the longest expected life span in sandy conditions.
  • This blade will produce the lowest amount of dust and noise.

Works as intended. If you have the ability, it'll need an edge added to it. Pretty dull out of the box. But to be expected.

I put this on my Try-Bilt TB-160 mower (with a Honda GCV-160 engine). It works well, I'm happy with it.

Mower: Troy-Bilt 240, bagging, mulching, side discharge mower. This blade super charged my mower! I used to have big issues with grass clippings collecting on the mower deck as I mowed and the overall performance was pretty mediocre. In an attempt to try something before going to look for another mower, I got this blade and it is a totally different mowing experience! The cut is much more even and the mower deck is completely clear after mowing the lawn. There also aren’t the clumps or grass on my lawn, so it feel that the mower is actually mulching the grass in stead of just spitting it out randomly. Can’t recommend this enough. Like I said in the title I can’t imagine why companies don’t install these from the start in new mowers.

I was not able to find an after-market blade that would fit my mower. I bought an adapter so that I could use the bow-tie blade, but still I encountered a problem with the vertical offset of the blade.I discovered that blade manufacturers do not ordinarily give you one of the key pieces of information that you need in order to choose a blade that will work with your mower. They will tell you the blade length, which is critical of course, and they will tell you a couple of other things that do not mean much, but they typically make no mention of the vertical offset. This is the vertical distance measured from the bottom of the crankshaft to the level of the cutting edge of the blade. This distance is just as critical as the length of the blade. If you don't pay attention to this distance, the "offset", you will likely end up with a blade that either sits too high and cuts poorly or worse (much, much worse) a blade that sits so low that the cutting edge is below the bottom edge of the mower deck. With the adapter installed, I carefully measured the vertical distance from the bottom surface of the adapter to the level of the deck's bottom edge. But this turned out to not be as useful as I had hoped, because the blade manufacturers did not typically tell you the offset. So, all that I was able to do was to look for a blade where, judging by the pictures, the offset was greater than the typical offset and potentially as great as I needed for it to be. This blade was my second attempt, and if it had turned out that the offset wasn't as great as I needed, I would probably have given away the mower and started anew with a new mower purchase. Fortunately, as luck would eventually have it, the little bit of extra offset with this blade was perfect, and I mean really perfect. The blade was tucked up just a little bit within the deck housing, almost all the way down to the lower edge of the deck, as it needs to be, but short of that distance by less than 1/2", which is just about perfect. Finally.
