All I really needed was the compressor clutch coil itself. The auto parts store wanted to sell me a complete rebuilt compressor for over $350. When I started looking on Amazon for the clutch coil I almost bought it but I read one guys review. Seems there was a difference in diameter on the coil size. Because I couldn’t find the exact dimensions I needed. I went ahead and bought this kit. I’m certainly glad I bought it, it’s a Delco factory part. Other than working in tight spaces, it went on fairly easily. So I got the right part the first time, did not have to remove the air conditioning compressor and then recharge the entire system. Money saved, a lot of time saved. Buy the good stuff the first time, save yourself a lot of trouble. Happy with my purchase.

An exact replacement from the AC clutch on my 2003 Pontiac Vibe GT. It is so nice to have ice-cold AC again!! In my view, totally worth the cost and effort to install. The included instructions are pretty good, and there are also already several good reviews detailing the installation procedures, so I won't repeat. (Plus see GenVibe for a full procedure with photos.) So, here I'll just give a few tidbits of advice after doing the job myself:1) I tried leaving the compressor bolted to the engine block, which is tempting because you can get pretty good access through the wheel well. However, don't try this. Instead, just bite the bullet and loosen the compressor from the start. It is so easy anyway: just two bolts to remove the radiator fan assembly from the car (for access) and then 3 bolts on the compressor to the block. You'll never get the 2nd and final retainer clip off while the compressor is still bolted to the block. (Leave the refrigerant hoses attached, of course!!)2) You don't need to buy that special tool to get off the shaft screw. If you are handy (and you probably shouldn't attempt this job at all if you're not!), you can fashion your own "tool" in 5 minutes. I used a thin piece of wood trim. Use the new part as a template and mark the 3 slots onto the wood. Then, drill a small perpendicular starter hole and pound through 3 small finish nails. (Obviously, make sure they are small enough to fit through the slots on the part first.) Cut off the nails at about 3/8" with Dremmel cutoff disk. Finally, drill a ~1 inch hole in the center, again using the new part as a template. Now, just use your home-built tool hold the outer drive disc in place while you loosen the center screw (T30).3) Toughest part of the job for me was getting that 2nd (largest) retainer clip off during disassembly. Putting the new one back on was also a challenge. Patience is a virtue....4) No puller necessary for me. It was relatively easy to slide off all 3 components.5) When judging the number of shims to put in, you will put the driver disc in place and assess the "air gap" between the pulley and the outer driver disc. To do this, it is helpful to realize that the shim's themselves are 0.4 mm, so just be sure you can barely fit a shim between the two parts. Mine took two shims, which the original assembly had as well.6) ~4 hour job is about right. I took my time, an would certainly have been faster if I had only followed my own advice above (#1).

Exact fit for my Pontiac Vibe 2005Hints: You need snap ring pliers and a 2 or 3 jaw gear puller. Rent a clutch holder tool with 3 points at AutoZone or other rental.Do NOT remove the snap ring located on the INSIDE of the compressor snout. After removing the torx gently work the plate (Driver ASM) and remove it from the splined shaft. No special tool needed. Dont lose the spacers in case you need them.Remove the larger snap ring that goes around the circumference of the snout. You may have to drop the compressor down to clear the 2 or 3 jaw puller. I got by with a 2 jaw.Clean the surfaces well. I used some antiseize on the inside of the pulley bearing and was able to tap the pulley and seat it for the snapring with a rubber mallet. Pretty easy. About an hour and a half because of the undercarriage plastics. My compressor is pretty weak and noisy but this will get me for another year. Most parts stores only sell a compressor and not the clutch.I guess thats why this part is so hard to find.Clutch works great!
