The single basket size is well suited for smaller hands. It creates a high pitched, clear-cutting percussive sound, great for keeping time in a percussion ensemble. It is typically played upright, using a sharp up-and-down motion so the seeds and pebbles strike the hard gourd base. I went to see The Lion King Musical recently and I had a good view of the percussionists. I'm a drummer/percussionist myself and saw one of the percussionists using this. I made a note to look into it and purchase one for myself.., I wasn't disappointed! I love the woven look of the Caxixi and the shaker sound is perfect, it's not too loud and blends in perfectly when playing in a band situation!

Absolutely love this instrument. It sounds great and is a true work of art. Completely hand made. I this were made in the USA and you bought it in some sort of gift shop, it would be five times the price!

I ordered 2 of these African shakers. I received only one plus a New England Patriots tee-shirt which I DID NOT order! And the Shaker I received has writing on the top. Why is it "signed" in marker? NOT. HAPPY.
