Amethyst is a violet form of quartz often used in jewelry. The name comes from Ancient Greek a- meaning not, and methustos- meaning intoxicated, a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. Amethyst belongs to the quartz family and is composed primarily of silica, Si02. Amethyst crystals are found in vertical, hollow gas tubes or cavities that formed in molten magma.. The gas tube then became filled with silica-bearing solutions. This caused the amethyst to grow very slowly and line the inside walls of the gas tubes. Druse is a geological term for a rock with a coating or incrustation of crystals on its surface. Amethyst is a very popular semi-precious stone and is used for faceting and jewelry making. Natural amethyst is a light purple color. Picture is representative of the specimen you will receive. Each rock is unique and will vary in shape, size and appearance. No two rocks will be exactly alike. Origin: South America Amethyst Composition: SiO2. Hardness: 7.0. Specific gravity: 2.65. Crystal Habit: 6-sided prism ending in 6 sided pyramid (typical). Melting Point: 1650+/- 75 degrees Celsius. Contains 1 chunk of amethyst measuring about 2 inches in length and weighing 2-3 ounces. Ages 8 and up

The piece is bigger than stated at 3” and I am more than happy. I use Amethyst crystals in my cats water to prevent fleas. The quality of this piece is excellent.

I am in LOVE!!!!! Ordered two on here not really knowing what to expect. I saw mixed reviews, but decided to give them a try. Was COMPLETELY blown away by how beautiful they are. I am an avid collector of stones and these seem to be 100% real amethyst. Not brittle. Amazing color. Perfect druzy style rock cluster. I was actually so impressed I went right back on and purchased 7 MORE!!!! I can’t wait to see what the next bunch look like. 🥰😍

The amethyst did not look like the picture at all! I just thought it would be much prettier like the photo! I’ve bought bulk crystals on here that have looked better then this.

I don't think it was Amethyst at all. I think it was a purple quartz crystal. Learned that from science class. Apparently quartz crystals can look a lot like Amethyst and have different colors. It was a bit brittle too. It does make good decoration.

I bought these amethyst stones to put into our dog's water bowls. I know, you're probably saying to yourself, "What???"We have been having a horrible flea infestation with our 4 dogs and I am opposed to using toxic chemicals. A friend told me that she had done some research and found that you can put raw amethyst stones in a dog's water bowl and the fleas will be gone in a day or two. She said that she tried it and it worked. Being rather skeptical, but desperate to control the flea outbreak, I did a Google search and found some interesting claims. I ordered these stones because they were a good price, and I wanted to give it a try.The geodes were nice specimens and almost too pretty to put into the water bowls, but we used them anyway. At first, the dogs would peer into the water bowls and turn their heads wondering what the heck was in their water. Now they drink freely from the bowls with the amethysts in them, without giving it a second thought. And I'll have to say that having a beautiful amethyst in a dog's water bowl makes for an interesting conversation piece.By now you're probably wondering, "Did the amethysts get rid of the fleas?" Sad to say, no...

It was bigger than I anticipated, but that was my fault. My biggest problem was that it came with some kind of rusty coating on parts of the stone. Not too pretty. It's a good product overall, though.

this item was just as it was described. I love the shine it has and it worked well for the ring i made in my jewelry class.
