My 20 year old custom canvas tarp finally died and I didn't want to spend a 1000 bucks or more replacing it.I got these, along with a 1400d boat cover from the same company (apxl) and it's as good as my original custom top. Gotta have these though, so the water doesn't pool on the tarp. The poles are medium duty, which is fine, they don't need to be anything more. The bases are a bit heavy. As other reviewers noted they really aren't meant for storage, but for me that's ok because we trailer everywhere, so tarp and poles just go in the back of the truck.Overall, between these and a tarp from the same company, I've replicated my 1000 dollar custom cover, just as nice and a third of the cost.

I had a couple little things I didn't like about the poles. The first one which wasn't too major is they are completely hallow. While this didn't effect their performance in holding up and support my cover, they were just loud. Wind or driving you could hear them rattling inside pretty clearly. The next thing would be you need to be delicate when hand tightening them. It is extremely easy to over tighten these. There was a bit of a bonus that it didn't take much effort to get them tightened, and I found this handy when getting the high first figured out. I was able to pull them up and get it tightened with the cover on with ease. The poles did a amazing job at providing a good amount of support. What I really liked is the fact that they weren't invasive. It wasn't pushing heavily into my tarp damaging the material, and the nice rolled cover on the top of the pole helped distribute the pressure so there wasn't any tight pressure points. For stability I was able to drive with them and easy one stayed up. They didn't slide, nor did they drop any height. They stayed right where I placed them in my boat before my 2 hour trip, with a good portion of that drive being on unmaintained gravel roads.Minus the small flaws, they are excellent. At the end of they day they do what their intended to do, and do it very well. The noise wasn't my biggest concern but the ability to over tighten and damage the poles with a small amount of effort is something I have to say be very mindful of.

I live in an area where we get snow, and my boat that sits on a trailer is covered, but the snow piles up every year and it eventually overcomes the tarp. I am hoping these poles will do the trick and keep the tarp tented so the snow falls off or at least won't collect on it. These seem strong with a huge base on each one, that is covered in some sort of soft rubber to protect the bottom of the boat. The top of the poles have a circular pad, that should not rip or damage your cover. The poles are adjustable. This looks like a great product, but I wonder about the price point, it is literally $50 per pole at the time of this review.

Finally got around to upgrading my boat cover setup, and this 3-pack of APXL support poles was a huge step up from the makeshift 2x4s I was using before. The stainless steel construction feels super solid, and the full-touchdown base is a big win — no more tipping or shifting, even on windy days.Adjusting the height is smooth and pretty intuitive, though I did learn quickly not to overtighten. One pole got a little sticky after I cranked it too hard, but still usable. The mushroom caps are nicely designed with holes for tying off support straps, and the EVA padding on the bottom protects my deck, which I really appreciate.Assembly takes maybe two minutes and doesn’t need tools. The whole setup feels premium and thoughtfully engineered. Only thing I’d improve is maybe a folding or stackable base for easier offseason storage — and including a simple carrying bag wouldn’t hurt either. If you're tired of pooling water or saggy covers, this is a smart investment. Works great not just for boats, but I’ve used them to lift patio covers too. Definitely recommend.

They went together without tools (base is keyed to the base bolt, top is push-on). The bottoms are rubberized, and informal testing says that they will take a pretty good load after firmly twisting to length. Top section has a captured nut to perhaps mount something?

If you cover your boat, you know the need to keep the rain from pooling on the tarp as it presses down. These poles take care of that and are very well made. I picked these up to replace some old plastic / thin aluminum ones I had that snapped off under pressure. This set gave me the strength of stainless steel and added a wide base to provide increased stability under pressure. Here in Texas and especially during storm season just before boating season begins, the rains are heavy, and the winds are drastic. These poles feel 100 times better than any I’ve used before. The stainless-steel uprights are in three sections each with a twist lock to get the height needed. You can add a little height to your cover or a much larger height if you need it for cover with a Bimini top or high cover. For my pontoon boat, I just need it to support the cover in the center area that attracts water and keep it rolling off the sides without slipping or falling. The bases are wide and padded underneath which helps keep your boat flooring in good shape. The heads are wide and curved nicely to prevent tear outs on your cover. Together with your boat cover, these poles help keep the water and debris out of your boat and ready for your next lake adventure.

Great quality, heavy duty, just what you want when you’re covering your boat and need more than tension to hold the cover up in situations where water, snow, or leafs or other debris might accumulate. The adaptability of these are great and work with my Supra boat which is about 22ft and the factory / OEM cover. So I assume that they pretty much work with any cover with standardized cover pole mount mating points or they’re concave enough that you could probably get away with just resting them underneath the cover (with some tension)…should they not be in the spot. The cover poles I’ve seen in the past have had much smaller feet so I was worried they made work with my boat and the space where the cover comes down / meets the pole support point—and it’s hard to measure as you’re not exactly sure where it will come down and you can’t exactly get to that space easily! My last worry was that they would be too sharp or damage my interior and that isn’t the case at all, they’re finished and can rest on surfaces without marring or damaging the vinyl. These are a great investment especially when you’re talking a six figure boat… I always question the people who are afraid or don’t want to spend a small amount of money for a large amount of protection for the purchase in the grand scheme of things !Excellent product that I expect to last as long as the cover if not longer!

I waited a long time for these poles to come in, but they were worth the wait. They are solid and well made, and will work much better than the plastic ones we were previously using. The only reason I didn't give them a five stars is because storage during the offseason can be an issue. I wish the bottoms of these flipped up or had a hinge or something on them. We're going to lose those bolts for sure. Also a case or plastic box or even a canvas bag would have been a nice touch.

I've been thinking of trying something like this for some time now to keep the tarp elevated and tented when I store my small boat for the winter. I just received these support poles now (in the spring) so we'll see how it works after next year's winter storage, but I played around with it and I am very impressed. The product comes disassembled and stored in a fairly small flat box. The weighted base plates and the support poles are assembled when you want to use it. Using a flat sided bolt that fits into a rectangular slot in the base plate, you just have to spin the poles onto the bolt, no tools required. The mushroom shaped top then just slides down on top of the pole. The poles are the telescoping type, where you twist it one way to lock it in place and twist it the other direction to loosen it. They seem quite sturdy when extended and tightened.I like that the round mushroom shaped top part has a few holes built into it, so you can tie some rope from one pole to the next and maybe off to the sides of your boat to provide more support for your tarp and hopefully prevent the tarp from sagging and accumulating water on it.Overall, I am very impressed with these support poles and I'm confident they will be an improvement over my previous method of trying to run a 2x4 along the length of my boat to be able to tent the tarp.

I don’t like leaving negative reviews but I’m doing it to possibly save someone else time and money. The first rain storm we had destroyed 3 of my 4 poles for our pontoon boat. We live in Oklahoma and get lots of rain and thunder storms and these poles were no match for our rainfall in 1 storm. I’ll attach pics that will speak for themselves.
