This has been a good heater so far.I have it on a 10 gallon, and it is more than sufficient to keep it nice and warm. There isn't a HUGE difference between room temp (about 74F) and aquarium temp (about 78F), but it does a good job.Temperature remains pretty stable, within a degree or two of the set point.I like that it has a push button to set the temps instead of a dial- I find it a lot easier to use that way.

We inherited a 55-gallon fish tank decades ago. We used it for winter storage for our koi, but then it became a tropical fish tank when we dug a deeper pond for the koi to overwinter in. One of the fish that first inhabited the tropical environs was an Australian Rainbow fish. This guy has been around for 15 years and counting. After all the other fish expired, he kept on. We keep buying other community fish to keep him (or her) company. We even moved him when we built a new house. The last item to move in was the tank and him. We had expected to eventually donate the tank once he passed, but we cannot just flush him. He's our bud. Therefore, we recently updated the heater for the tank because it was located in the basement near the outside door. The old heater still worked, but was undersized and we worried the tank would get too cold. This Aquael heater comes in several different sizes with capacities to heat small and large tanks. So far, the heater is doing its job. The installation was straight forward, though the directions were primarily images. The printed directions only announced warnings. However, setting the device doesn't require much thought. The button on the top is depressed until the desired setting is reached. A roving LED light confirms the setting once the stationary LED indicated your set temp preference. The button requires a stout press to activate, thus two hands are needed to set the temp while holding the majority of the heater under the water level. The suction cups hold the wall well, but the actual heater glass tube slides easily in the plastic bracket, so pressing the set button only pushes the glass heater deeper into the water. You need the second hand to prevent the tube sliding in the holder. Our picture is lame due to the fact that we just cleaned the tank and performed a water change. Also, the reflection from outside creates distortion of the image. If things change, we will let you know, but for now we are on track to maintaining a constant water temp.

I’ve used Aquel heaters a few times now and the first one I bought was defective, the second lasted over a year and never failed, the third one was defective and the fourth now after a couple months is failing when the temp cooled just a few degrees in the house. Consistency is not a priority with this brand. I’ll be changing to Eheim or Fluval from now on.

I bought 2 of these 25w Platinum heaters for a deal on here. They are in 5 gallon tanks and keeping the temperature very stable in both. I don’t know their long term reliability but it seems to be high quality and easy to set up. Pretty sure these are the same as the Cobalt Neoglass but all black color which I prefer and better priced.

Aquael is very careful not to disclose that this heater is not submersible. My heater has condensation inside the glass and no longer warms up after only a couple weeks. Not safe, thankfully no people or fish were electrocuted. I'll be sticking with Eheim heaters in the future.
