I just installed 3 of these for an under gravel filter so haven't had enough time to evaluate over a long period of use. However, out of the box I am deducting 2 stars for 2 reasons. ! star is for the useless manual that is included. There are quite a few components that come with this pump, but not one word in the manual on how to use them! The manual is mostly filled with "Cover your rear" legal junk, including a statement on safety telling you to keep it dry and don't use if wet! LOL.The second star deducted is because it is impossible to turn the bubbles produced down very low or even off! Even when the air intake hose is put in the water to prevent air coming in, the pump STILL produces some bubbles, albeit at a low rate.

Ordered 2 for my old 55 gallon tank, thought the price was very good. Came with everything they were supposed to and worked fine from the start.

I have a 55 gallon aquarium and these pumps are very quiet and suction cups work great! My last pumps were a little noisy, vibrated the tank lids and suction cups would not stick to tank glass. I am so glad I found these to replace my old ones.

I've purchased powerheads in this price range before and they have worked for years, but this one got past QC. The impeller is very loose and constantly jams and then stops working. When it does work, it's just fine, but I can't be disassembling it every other day to get it started back up. I'll exchange this one and give this brand one more try before I give up on it.Addendum: Avoid this one. Reducing to 1 star. It looks like the issue with the impeller isn't a one-off as I had an exact replacement sent out and it did exactly the same thing - stopping after a day or so due to what appears to be a badly fitting water exhaust fitting. The propeller catches on an edge of the cover and freezes. Removing, cleaning, and restarting the pump only results in a temporary fix. Sticking to the known brands after this.

Bought this unit to use as a wave maker in my 75 gallon tank. It is a perfect size, not intrusive and has great flow. I added a sleeve on the intake to protect the smaller fish. works great. I highly recommend this product.

This is a very good powerhead at a very good price. I have been using it for several weeks now for an undergravel filter with no problem. I am using two, and they are very quiet. I am very happy with it, and so are my fish.

So I have 2 powerheads for my 55-gallon tank, one on each side and both having diverter "fans" to deflect the current so that my fish don't have to feel as if they're salmon spawning upstream 24/7. So when one of my powerheads went out (albeit after 10 years of flawless operation), I began the search for a replacement and stumbled upon this. The reviews were good, and the price was excellent; but once hooked up (no diverter fan and the airflow sputters for about 10 hours or so), this was way more flow than I needed, the water current roiling away at the top, even as I moved the outflow as far against the glass as I could. My poor fish were back to spawning mode (I unplugged the unit). Perhaps if this will be your only powerhead, then it's perfect since it does move the water and thus is effectively filtering your bottom gravel. But if you're like me and have a powerhead on each side of your tank, you may find this a bit too much (I dropped down to a unit at half the power, 8 watts vs. the 15 watts this uses) and found it perfect. Just so you get a reference, my four silver dollars are fully grown at about 4 inches, and my Plecostomus is about 9 inches so they could take "the flow" but...with the quieter and less-powerful powerhead, the tank has again settled into a peaceful mode. No more bubbling water, just the sound of bubbles...ahhh.
