Overall, the product itself is fairly well made. I would not use it for land navigation, but it does make for a beautiful parting gift. This was a gift for a friend who got orders to Kuwait, and I wanted to give her something sentimental she could remember us by. She absolutely loved it, but I only gave it 4 stars because the leather casing it came in isn’t the most attractive or functional. If it’s for a gift, I would recommend buying or building a wooden box to put it in. The size and color of the compass fits perfectly in your palm, and the inside engraving is legible. Overall, a good gift for someone in the service for the price.

My son can't actually use this in the field as they have special ones. But, he liked it, it's good looking & good quality. He likes it as a "novelty", collectable type display item.

The compass itself is fine, what you would expect. A nice memento for someone who is serving. We purchased it for a friend who was graduating from Basic Training. Unfortunately, the compass was shipped in a padded envelope. The plate glass lens on the compass was cracked during shipping. Product returned.
