It is a direct replacement other than swapping the breather plate on the old carb to this one - 2 screws and super easy. If you don't do that, the hose coming into the top of the carburetor will just lay there unconnected, which is probably fine as well. The new carb has the 9.9 jets........ thus if you have the 8hp.... now it is a 9.9. If your doing it for the same reason I am.... it works.

I ordered this replacement carburetor for my 2017 Mercury 9,9 HP 4 stroke outboard motor. In the last few years it was getting harder to start cold, lots of fiddling with the choke. This spring it was leaking gas under the choke/accelerator pump so I ordered this carb, installed it and the motor started right away and idled better. I did swap one plate, that lacked a spigot to connect to a grey hose, from the OEM (original equipment manufacture) to this carb, 3 screws I think, no big deal. I marked the OEM idle adjustment rod before removing it and needed to adjust it to the new carb by maybe 1mm, again, no big deal. WOT( wide open throttle) and in-between is perfect.I have no issues in recommending this carb but do keep the gasket between carb and motor or order a new one.

Bought this to replace the carb on a 9.9 Pro Kicker that sat for years. I had to swap a couple of parts from the old carb for primer . Adjusted idle and it ran perfectly.

Bought this carburetor for my 2021 pro kicker, swamped the kicker on a sloppy day on the lake and it never ran right after that, I cleaned the original carb multiple times and it wouldn't idle. Bought this unit as a replacement and it actually runs better than it did with the factory mercury carburetor. Give this piece a try, it fixed my problem and has ran good since I bought it a year ago.

After swapping out the priming bulb attachment and other plate from my old carb and installing this one, the engine started and ran great. For a few months. Then it started becoming very hard to run and even harder to start, requiring the use of the choke after engine warmup. If it died during operation, it would require the throttle wide open and lots of cranking (thank goodness my Mercury 9.9 2005 has an electric starter motor) before it would finally start. Then it just flat out refused to start.

Shipping was fast, installation was easy after simple swap of overflow and primer plate off my old carb. Once installed started second pull on my 2005 Mercury 9.9 4 stroke. Simple idle adjustment and shift rod, ran for 15 mins on a stand and sounded perfect. Replaced carb due to clogged and stuck pilot needle. Motor wouldn't hold at idle. Would recommend to anyone needing a new carb or carb rebuild.

I bought this to replace the carburetor on my 9.9 mercury outboard. It works perfectly. My motor would not start and I could not get it into a dealer for a service for a couple of months. One of the dealers I talked to suggested that I try replacing the carburetor. So I went on Amazon and found this one. I put it on and this motor started right up and run smoother than it did before.

I think I received a used carburator that was returned already.the gasket mounting surface was scratched up pretty bad.it also still had gas in it.it made the motor run stupidly rich.it was making the engine pour out black smoke.i tried to make adjustments to it but it still made the engine black smoke.im returning it .I'm gonna get another one and if it's better I will update

I liked the fact that this carburetor is way less $$. Also the 2012 9.9 Mercury Pro kicker does not need to have the primer hoses. I simply skipped using a primer since the carb top and bottom plates do not have the gas line tubing. My motor started easily without the primer and it took minimum adjustment to get it to idle better than it has in years! It would have been easy to swap the plates from the old carb…not necessarily though!

Fonctionne à merveille je l'ai installé et fait quelques ajustements de départ tout ce qu'il y a de normal à faire avec un carburateur. La finition générale semble plus soigner que le carburateur original.

Carburetor was missing small plastic clip for choke lever, but swapped it over from my old one. Installed and runs perfectly. Note: it does not come with the gasket.

Motor has never run better. It starts first pull every time before this carb is was pull pull pull. Very pleased .
