The great outdoors is significantly less great when you're the main course for every mosquito in a five-mile radius. Enter these Citronella Oil Scented Candles. I was initially drawn to the rather fetching tins – a pleasant departure from the usual "here's a bucket of wax" aesthetic. They actually look quite stylish on the patio table, which is a bonus I wasn't expecting. My guests might even think I have taste.But do they work? I'm pleased to report that yes, they do seem to keep the blood-sucking ninjas at bay. I hosted a backyard get-together last weekend, and while the conversation may have been questionable at times, the lack of swatting was a definite win. The gentle citronella aroma is present but not overpowering, unlike some olfactory assaults that masquerade as candles. It's more of a "Hmm, smells like summer and fewer bites" than "Wow, I think my nose hairs just dissolved."The gift set packaging is also a nice touch. Makes it look like you put in more effort than you actually did if you're giving it to someone. Or, like me, you can just "gift" it to yourself. Self-care, right?Overall, a solid purchase. They smell decent, look surprisingly chic, and most importantly, appear to create a mosquito-no-fly-zone. My ankles and my reputation as a competent host thank them. Two thumbs up (and zero mosquito bites on said thumbs).

These candles have such a citrus smell but I wish it was stronger. I got them because I heard citronella helps to repel mosquitoes. Unfortunately the scent of the candles is only prevalent within a 2-3 foot radius on the candle. It does burn for a lengthy amount of time though so that’s nice but the lack of smell is a bit disappointing.

The lemongrass/citronella scent is bright and clean—more citrusy-fresh than herbal-medicinal. In terms of mosquito repellent, they’re not industrial strength, but they do make a noticeable difference in smaller outdoor setups like balconies, porch seating, and dining tables.The cotton wicks light quickly and remain stable—no tunneling or crackling issues. Soy wax burns cleanly, with no smoke or residue at all that I’ve observed. The metal, floral green-and-gold tins are compact but sturdy and very portable and are pretty enough for decor or gifting (they don’t scream “mosquito repellent,” which is a plus).So far, I’ve used mine on my outdoor dining table by the pool, which worked very well. I've also used it on my little outdoor fire table, but did have a little bit of trouble with the wind blowing them out when I used them on the fire table.The best application I’ve used them for so far has been for relaxing in the shower or bath when I feel like keeping my door open to the backyard. I really love the fresh air of the night sky with the occasional breeze coming in, but sometimes the mosquitoes make that difficult to do. That’s where these candles actually work very well because you don't have to contend with the wind blowing out the candle(s), it's a small enough (or confined enough) space for it to make a huge difference in keeping the mosquitoes out, and the scent is not at all overwhelming. You can put them anywhere around the bathtub, or you could set them by the open bathroom door and enjoy a nice bath or shower with the door open for fresh air.I’ve used them for several hours a piece and still have not used them up so they check the “long-lasting” box in my book. I have to say, I really like them!**Let me just add, when I first opened them, I though to myself, not sure if these are going to be able to perform to the level we need given their small size… but I am pleasantly surprised and stand corrected.

They come in tins, which will get hot as the candle burns, so set them on a dish so they don't harm your table. I will be using these for a small outdoor gathering where I want my guests to have a relaxing time -- hopefully mosquito-free -- by a river for a ladies weekend. The scent is classic citronella. I don't know if these are large enough to offer much in the way of a repellant, but I think even just the ambiance of candlelight while we're enjoying wine by the water will be nice.

These are smaller than I expected, but they smell amazing! The little tins they come in are super cute too. These would be great for camping trips or on a patio table since they don't take up much space. I know I will get a lot of use out of them.
