DIE CAST ALUMINUM FRAME
Die casting is a manufacturing process for producing accurately dimensioned, sharply defined, smooth or textured-surface metal parts. It is accomplished by forcing molten metal under high pressure into reusable metal dies.
MULTI-DISC DRAG SYSTEM
A disc drag is simply a number of discs made of self-lubricating materials that create various levels of friction as the drag knob is tightened. It is a big factor in fighting and tiring the fish quickly and keeping it from breaking off.

Fit 20 pound back line 100 yards plus floating line fine. Fits well on fly rod. Drag works well have caught much larger fish than I should have

I bought this for a cheap throw away 4wt fly rod. It hold a a reasonable amount of backing and a wf4f line without issue.Retrieve is silent with a fairly quiet click when line is stripped.Near zero play between spool and frame, without any sign of rubbing between the two.In smaller sizes I don't care much about the drag on a fly reel as long as the reel doesn't overspin when I strip line. This one works well enough not to bother me.Once I took it apart I could see the reel is very similar to the Piscifun Sword functionally. I suspect many of the asian import reels are siblings, if not identical twins, regardless of the name printed on the outside. Though it is mechanically similar, this reel is much less refined internally than The Piscifun reel. Differences include:1. Where the Sword spindle threads into the frame a stainless steel washer between the two prevents you from threading it too far into the softer aluminum - ensuring the spindle stays the same length. The spindle on this reel threads into a lock nut under the drag knob that will gouge through the aluminum of you over-tighten it.2. The Sword reel has polished stainless steel washers that sandwich a carbon fiber disc for the drag. This reel has 2 steel discs that may be stainless, but are not polished. The drag disc is made from some sort of plastic material.3. The inside edge of the reel body where the line is most likely to rub when stripped (see picture) is beveled on better quality reels to keep it from abrading the line. The edge on this reel, while not sharp, is certainly not smooth.It's pretty easy to find fault with this reel. But then I consider the price which is about 1/3 of the Sword (which is already a cheap reel) and i really can't say anything too bad about it.The friction point on the reel body can be polished to fix the potential line abrasion issue.If the plastic drag disc fails it can be replace with a carbon fiber disc.If you overtorque the spindle retaining nut or break it in some other way... A replacement for the entire reel is well under $20.It's perfectly adequate for a beater, or behind the truck seat rod.

I tried to put 50 feet of backing and a dt7 weight line on the reel and the capacity is too small. The fly line binds against the reel housing before all the fly line is on. It is useless for what I had intended.

Out of the box, the reel neither spun smooth and free in retrieve direction or had a smooth linear drag force so I decided for the price I would risk destruction to disassemble. The Spool is quick release and the release works perfectly but not as smooth as a higher tier reel, I decided to pull out the one way clutch and look at the bearings, both were stiff, gritty and dry. This was easily remedied by removing the one in the spool cleaning and lubing with Reel X (what I keep on hand since I'm in saltwater more than fresh) and it was good to go. The one pressed into the reel body would not come out so I gave it a good squirt of reel x and spun it with the lid to the lube and it came right to life and smoothed out good enough. Next I removed the screw from the drag knob (reverse threads) and fully unscrewed the drag knob (standard threads). This must be done carefully as the drag knob clicker can be damaged. When I felt the knob try to bind I wiggled it and you can feel the drag clicker let go and you can unscrew it further. I had to shake/wiggle it several times before the knob was clear of pressure from the spring. removing the knob (knob facing vertical up) you will see the drag clicker (little brass nose cone near the bottom, 3 silver pins, a spring washer and a normal washer. All of those parts will fall out if turned over and gravity gets them. remove them and set them aside for safe keeping. There is a small nut on the spindle now exposed, Mine was a 5/16ths, standard threads, and when removed the spindle assembly and drag pack, and drag clicker can be removed. I recommend holding the spindle in place while removing the nut. Next,flip the reel over making sure not to let the spindle and everything behind it fall out, remove the spindle, drag pack (noting orientation) and drag clicker. There is a drag washer, a drag fiber and a keyed washer (in that order) that will probably need pried apart. My drag fiber was completely stuck to the drag washer and had ZERO grease on it which was causing it to bind up when when the drag needed to slip. Coat the both sides of the drag washers with a drag safe grease, and reassemble in reverse order mentioned above. The reel now spins freely and the drag has a wider adjustable range and a very linear pull. I dabbed a little grease on the point of the spindle that quick release slide over and it helped smooth out the quick release/reinstall. The spool is quite wide on the 3/4 to make up for the large arbor. I will update with line capacity asap.
