About this item

  • DEPENDABLE STRENGTH — This trailer hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs. gross trailer weight and 525 lbs. tongue weight (limited to lowest-rated towing component)
  • VERSATILE DESIGN — This class 3 hitch equips your vehicle with a standard 2-inch x 2-inch hitch receiver (not compatible with vertical hanging bikes / bike racks that require the bikes to be hung / mounted vertically)
  • FULLY TESTED — Every CURT class 3 trailer hitch design is tested in real-world, on-vehicle conditions at our Detroit engineering facility. Aftermarket hitches are tested according to SAE J684 standards for the utmost safety while hauling
  • RUST, CHIP, UV-RESISTANT — This tow hitch is protected with a unique dual-coat finish of rust-resistant liquid A-coat and highly durable black powder coat. The two finishes are co-cured together for exceptional resistance to rust, chipping and UV rays
  • EASY TO INSTALL — This hitch offers a custom, factory fit on select model years of the Subaru Crosstrek and XV Crosstrek

Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Subaru Crosstrek and XV Crosstrek (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 525 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

Excellent build quality all around. The instructions breeze past you have to widen the front hole for the retainers and bolt to fit through, this is a must. I used a dremel and cut off wheel to make a small notch followed by a round file to widen the notch just enough. U-Haul makes clear and precise install videos for this exact kit, make and model.

Excellent quality and built. Unfortunately did not work on my Subaru xv 2021 model as this is the model of the old Subaru xv 2017 to 2020.

So easy to install! Took me 10 minutes and that is being generous! I love it and toe my boat with it without fear! Not having to drill is perfect! Would buy again for my next vehicle- no complaints

First of all Amazon did a great job packaging and protecting this hitch for shipment! All parts were present as would be expected. (I ordered and received the hitch in April 2022.) The hitch appears to be very sturdy. I installed a Curt hitch on a Mazda vehicle years ago and expected that this install would go just as smooth. I did not check the installation videos before my decision to purchase this Curt hitch for our Subaru. As it turned out, installation requires enlarging 2 holes on the frame of our vehicle - no problem I spent about a day looking for a die grinder bit (decided on a diamond grinder bit from Harbor Freight) which it seems can only readily be found for a Dremel tool which was fine since I already have a Dremel but once I start enlarging the holes, my Dremel tool got hot really fast, thermal tripped, and shut off. I put it in front of a fan for at least an hour for it to cool down, smacked it to reset it and it was able to be used again. Once I started looking at the bolts provided with the hitch, i realized that the placement of the shim in the installation instructions appears to be backwards. It should be at the rear-most position instead of the forward position. This is because some additional clearance is needed between the body of the vehicle and the hitch frame. Further, the larger diameter bolts for the holes where the shims get placed are the wrong length. They are barely long enough to accommodate the thickness of the shims between the hitch and the vehicle frame. The smaller diameter bolts are actually too long for their application (if you follow the instructions). Clearly it appears that they intended to place the shims in the same holes as the longer bolts, but the instructions show the opposite. Ideally, the larger diameter bolts should be at the rearmost position (greatest load bearing at the rear) and the smaller diameter bolts should be in the forward position. Anyway, the final humor to this story was that Curt said that it should take 30 minutes to install the hitch. With the rainy weather and looking for the right tool bit, it only took us about 3 days! In the end, I suppose that I am a satisfied customer but more wary than before of spending too much time on installation. In the future, I am not going to automatically trust that a Curt hitch is going to install quick and easy. I will consider other options first should I purchase another hitch.

I purchased the 13135 model and installed it on a 2013 Crosstrek. Installation was amazingly simple; completed well within an hour. I used a round metal file to widen the hole enough to accommodate the bolts (picture attached). I also used double sided tape to hold the spacers in place on the hitch while it was lifted into place for mounting, this worked out very well. The only issue I had was: the instructions say to leave the fish wires connected when lifting the hitch in place, I assume so that you don't accidentally push the bolts into the frame, but I found the removal of the wires to be cumbersome while attempting to hold the hitch in place, so I left them off for this step. The hitch itself looks to be well made and lines up perfectly with the holes in the Crosstrek's frame. I have only used it to haul my bike rack, but it is very sturdy and I cannot foresee any issues with hauling a trailer.

Please note, at the time of this review the hitch is installed but the trailer has not been towed more than 100 yards. I simply put it back behind the shed after testing it. However, the fitment is good and the installation is not too hard. It is not clear in the description, or at least I did not see it, but you will have to make a small and simple alteration to the frame of the car. We are talking like maybe a quarter inch in total. When under the vehicle there are three holes on each side of the frame. This entire hitch can be installed with only small alterations to the hole closest to the rear of the car (on both passenger and driver sides). You will need to make that hole larger to fit the bolts into the frame. I did this by hand in about 5 minutes using a simple Round Metal Bastard File like this one:https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-22-178-10-Inch-Single-Bastard/dp/B004EBJF34/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1527793659&sr=8-6&keywords=round+metal+file&dpID=316x7iaeDnL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srchYou will need to grind that most aft hole to look like my hand drawn photo. Once you do that everything can be fed through the enlarged hole and installed. Follow the instructions and you will be fine. I recommend getting all of the bolts & spacers into place and then installing the hitch. Unless you have the strength to hold that hitch against the frame with one hand and attach the nut with the other, you will need help. The instructions say 30 minutes for amateur installation but its probably closer to 45 minutes. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE: after installing the hitch correct the first time, I felt the metal spacers may not be needed. I was wrong. They serve a purpose. I'm telling you this because during the process of putting them back in I accidentally pushed a bolt into the frame. I struggled for 30 minutes to get it out of there. Under no circumstance do you want to do that.
