Running at 12v after about 20 minutes the wires going into the unit overheated. It melted the silicone covering and burnt the connectors off. The wire on these are 16-18 gauge range. This is to small for the 16 amp draw. I did some testing and was only able to run around 6v to prevent the wire leads from overheating. It seems they used 100w wires on a 200w element. I contacted the company directly and was told it was a bad connection issue from the heating element to the wire leads coming from it. When I asked what kind of support was available I was unable to get a response. To remedy the issue as I really needed a 200w element for my application, I purchased heat proof connectors, 12 gauge hi temp wire, and high temperature silicone. I attached my own wires to the element ends and applied silicone around everything for insulation purposes. I then used shrink tubing around the silicone, and finished it off with heat resistant electrical wrap. This has worked for me.

The wattage depends somewhat on temperature. As the unit heats up, the resistance drops, so I do see near 200W at 12v around 100C.The hook-up wires are 18ga with fiberglass insulation. This is very thin for the current drawn, and the wires themselves get very hot. They either need free-air ventilation, or to be replaced with heavier gauge.

I have 10 of these. The resistance measures out to about 1.1-1.3 Ohms. These would then be only about 130W max at 12V.
