Just finished a week long trip following rides found in a book and programmed into the Zumo using BaseCamp. That took some learning, but I can put "routes" together fairly quickly now. Like any GPS or computer map, it doesn't always match reality. Get over it. My biggest complaint is that the voice isn't loud enough through my headset. I use the media player for music, and the volume is fine. When the music cuts out, I need to look at the screen because the "Direction Whisperer" is telling me something. It's also not as bright as I'd hoped, and the only mount is set up for a corded headset, so us Bluetooth users have a bunch of wires to route to the battery area for no reason. Having done so, there is no removing of the mount when the unit is not in use, so it kind of advertises you have one somewhere on the bike when you aren't on it. The media player only works with MP3, so I had to reconvert all my music. And for $400, they should give you an entire manual, not just a start up guide. When I'm using the unit, a computer isn't handy for the downloaded version. Also, it will navigate you to the beginning of a programmed route, but doesn't automatically start you on it. That seemed kind of odd, since I'd chosen the route in the first place. Now the good stuff - it is very solidly mounted (I'm a RAM mount fan) and once you get it located and aimed, it stays put, no matter how many times you snap the unit on and off. It also comes with a very nice case and a weather guard for the mount, so most users won't have to go out and buy any further accessories, unless you want a different mount or one of the available sun shields (I bought one of those, and found it helpful in making the display viewable in sunlight. I don't have a windscreen on my bike right now, the wind blast didn't affect the mount or the unit. I ran into a lot of "bridge out" situations, and usually the "Detour" choice was able to get me back on track, although some gravel roads were encountered. Starting one of my programmed routes somewhere other than the beginning didn't seem to confuse it - it took you from that point to the end, and you could restart it if you wanted to do the first half.

First, my 60 day follow up. I had a problem not being able to use the 'point to go' feature. I worked around it for a month, just appreciating everything else it did.I finally decided this needed to work, after being disoriented in a city I had not been to and was driving around in a circle. My third call for support I decided to do the factory reboot. I did manage to save my favorites before doing so.The reboot fixed the 'go to' problem. However, after reinstalling the favorites, then the map wouldn't load. We get the map to load and the favorites wouldn't load. Then it wouldn't pick up satellites... I finally decided after five hours on the phone with Garmin it was time to get rid of this.I was outside the time allowed to return this to Amazon. Nonetheless, the rep was very nice and provided a refund as well as overnighted a new unit. The new one works great!I hadn't realized how little memory this has. I highly recommend the 32g micro SD card.On with the review. This has provided new navigation capabilities I would not otherwise attempt on the motorcycle. I am so impressed to be able to see the screen on direct, bright sunlight, without any need for a sunshade which (would have impeded its use anyway), and while using sunglasses.Needing reading glasses I did find the bifocal / safety and sport glasses from Walmart work just fine.It does have its quirks however.I have owned about ten GPS's, almost all have been nuvi's. These are some of the issues I had with the Zumo.Install battery without breaking a nail. The small usb port on the back of the car cradle is not for charging the GPS. That is a power port out. IMO, it should be labeled. You need to use the port behind the battery cover or the supplied cigarette lighter charger. When not plugged into anything you will see the battery status icon on the upper right. The fourth wire in the harness is for a mini usb port. I thought it alone was an antenna. Won't be using it anyway. I secured that inside the batwing.I did route the mic and audio out cables through the fairing on the Ultra Classic at the throttle cable grommet and secured to the handle bars. Works great.I had a number of issues on my first call to Garmin. The guy did a terrible job and nearly everything he told me I later found out was incorrect .I then spent half an hour on a second call, that tech did a much better job with the exception he told me I neede to upgrade the maps because I was not getting the green, turn by turn bar at the top for navigating. He too was wrong, prompting yet another call to garmin. I needed to go to settings and do a reset. That fixed that problem. The map upgrade was unnecessary and wasted another hour. Time spent on hold waiting to talk to someone, time getting mis-information........way too much.Be much better if Garmin made user CD's that answered all the questions they get time and time again. Cost to reproduce a CD, very inexpensive and doesn't waste everyone's time. There is a safe mode feature you can deactivate to allow use while driving. I can use my leather driving gloves and still use all features of the GPS. Excellent!I've now used this for about 65 hours. It has had it share of glitches. Roads that have been around for at least 60 years do not show on the map. I was not able to find by name local Harley dealerships or other businesses I thought should have been easy. Some other navigation issues I had today would be too complex trying to explain, just glad it's in an area I have at least some knowledge of, enough to know the GPS was way off. A few intersection searches for interstates came up empty. The most glare I've had at any time was caused from the reflection of my green safety vest . Still , not enough of an issue. My glove eliminates that issue.I am entering locations I ride weekly as I get there. Helps me map out places I travel in my 500 mile weekly ride. A full six hour day riding puts me in proximity of some place I've already been to for easy rerouting when there are parking lots on the interstates to deal with.I've taken one star off for the less than stellar advice from the Garmin tech support, as well as the navigational glitches I've had this far.Nonetheless, I am thrilled to have this. Any complaints of screen washout from sunlight is nonexistent on my unit. Being able to navigate the screen using leather riding gloves is a huge bonus. What I would have liked was a quick connector to use either the cigarette lighter on the motorcycle, or the supplied wire direct setup, and an additional inline on/off switch for power already in the harness. I ended up wiring this directly to the extra lead off the headlight harness. I had hoped to just plug into the lighter outlet first just to see how it worked.Thankfully I had a really nice day to take the bike apart and solder the leads and get this installed. For any Harley owners it's worth noting I found a bad ground connection on the triple tree that took some doing to fix. Facing the bike that is located under the radio on the right side. Not easy to see even when you know to look for it.Total time spent, 4 hours, which includes numerous trips to the basement for tools and supplies and not having a garage to work in.Overall, I am thrilled with this. I am now free to travel on roads and in places I would never have ventured without it.And, I would add the mounting hardware that comes with this is more than adequate. I had bought a $50 fairing mount for the Harley Davidson and found it totally unnecessary.

The unit works great, and it has already taken more abuse than any of my previous car units could take. I use it both in my car and on the motorcycle. I am only dinging a star because the operating system is sooo out dated even compared to other models from the year before. Also, it can do traffic, but you need the non included adapter, not a big deal, but kind of silly that it is not better integrated into the system (tis why I did not buy the adapter)12/28/2016Wow?! I have been using this for two years?! I upgraded to a 5 star as the "outdated" software is no longer a relevant issue with 2 new generations after this device. This thing is beat up, but it still works, I have dropped it many times.I think I am most impressed with the clip into the MC "dock". Many times I have arrived at my destination to notice that the Zumo was only halfway into the clamp on top, so it wasn't fully "locked" in place but kind of hanging out and even though this has happened over a dozen times, I still own this device 2 years later.I use this on the MC maybe once a month, only when I am going someplace newish or infrequent, but even with the Awesome always sunny Portland Weather (That is where you laugh), there has been no issue with the contacts though I am sure to always use the cover when I am not using the Zumo.I would highly recommend this product. I very much want to upgrade to the new units especially to gain tire pressure monitoring but this Zumo 660LM performs so well that it is hard to justify $7-900 for more farkle functions. So, if you want a device that will get you there and don't want to spend 2x or more for the newest Generations, I would highly recommend this unit.
