Common Names: Bishop's, Goutweed Bishop's , Bishopsweed Goutweed, Ground Elder, Herb Gerard. Seeds must be planted in the Fall in a high organic bedding. Please note: The tender leaves have been used in antiquity and throughout the Middle Ages as a spring leaf vegetable, much as spinach was used. Young leaves are preferred as a cooking herb. It is best picked from when it appears (as early as February in the UK) to just before it flowers (May to June). Its use as a medicinal herb has largely declined during the modern era. The plant is said to have been introduced into England by the Romans as a food plant and into Northern Europe as a herb by monks. Zone 3-9. Bonus Sample pack of seeds with each pack of seeds purchased. ***** This listing is for Seeds ***** Planting Instructions: These are Un-stratified seeds and will require stratification in the ground over the winter or 45 days in the freezer to stimulate germination.
