THE PRESS THAT WAS SHIPPED IS NOT THE PRESS THAT IS PICTURED. THE CRATE WAS SMASHED UPON ARRIVAL FROM THE PARTS BEING LOOSE INSIDE. I OWN TWO PRESSES IDENTICAL TO THE LIGHT GREY PRESS PICTURED IN THE AD. THE PRESS I RECEIVED WAS DARK GRAY, AND THE SPUR GEAR, AND COLLAR ARE MUCH LIGHTER DUTY THAN THE ONE PICTURED.

Seems to be solid but had to make a key for it I guess the one that was supposed to come with it fell out in transit The ram would not move up or down after assembly figured out that the plate on the front needed to be left loose to get it to move didn't like that so shimmed it out with some sheet metal it works now don't know if it'll wear in and have to take the shim out but will find out. Contacted hhip customer service sot far have not gotten a response. Am somewhat satisified with it, it will work for what I need now that I have it working

The press work good but the plate broke on the first use. Now understand, I also had a 4FT breaker bar on the handle.

Not a precision piece of equipment. Also not expensive. Good features like ratchet and counter weight handle. I like it and it does the job of pressing very well.

However, they cut a lot of corners. The handle for rising the ram is secured with two set screws tightened against the round gear shaft. The locking ring securing the handle support assembly is locked in place with one set screw simply tightened against the round gear shaft. My experience has shown these will come loose after the first few uses and the rack will drop and smash ones hand. There should have been dimples placed in the shaft to allow the set screws to grip the shaft securely. See my modification attached. They wisely drilled two oiler holes so the shaft can be lubricated. I prefer grease. I tapped the holes and installed Zerk fittings so that it can be greased. Beats oil running all over the place. See photos. The ratchet wheel is locked to the shaft with a small key which they call a dowel. I question if this key will not shear when applying 3 tons of pressure on a project. Time will tell, but I was taught, “if your design can fail, it will fail”. Since they had to cut teeth into the shaft to have it mesh with the teeth on the ram, why not extend the cut of the teeth a few inches and broach internal teeth on the ratchet wheel to match the teeth on the gear shaft? Guaranteed not to fail. These minor changes would have cost the manufacturer all of $2.00, maybe an extra $10.00 for the broaching step and would have turned this into a first class press.

Item seems to work good, I like the ratchet ability. Only one problem was the Allen screw was missing for the retaining collar. I happened to have the right metric screw so no problem for me. But I have thousands of screws on hand. May be a trip to hardware store for others. 8-4-2020 still working good no problems so far.

I've had this press for two years and it has worked rather well for the price. The bad part about this is the ratchet broke (probably because I have too long a handle as mine didn't come with one I made one up) and trying to get a replacement part (8600-3402) has so far been fruitless as its out of stock on the manufacturers website and they don't ship to Canada. I'm not happy.

Very functional. Not real smooth but good enough. HHIP is an awesome company to do business with.
