My local bike shop that I love thought about carrying this chain but didn’t think anyone would spend a couple extra bucks to customize the looks and functionality of their chain. Wrong. Worth ever bit of $ and looks so cool!

It's unidirectional but if you like your paint color its best to always install the chain in same direction.. Switching gears seems to wear the paint off of the drive side pretty fast. Also if you use a heat gun to dry your your chain after degreasing it like me since degreaser never really dries in my opinion (Had a dime size drop of park tool cb4 sit on my desk for over two weeks) it will fade the green in my case after 5 or 6 times but I got it pretty hot each time. well till it quit putting off smoke. I got around 2k on mine before it snapped, but I think a hard shift at a very bad time ultimately killed it. Was easily fixable by adding a 2nd missing link & is still going strong thru the woods & up hills

The following are not faults of the chain!After first ride make sure you clean it down THOROUGHLY! The black coating on the rollers comes off and makes a huge gluggy mess. You wanted a light chain and they use hollow pins to help achieve that. If your chain breaker tool is pointy it will jam itself without pushing the pin out. Grind the point flat and it will work fine.I love this chain! Done a few hundred KMs with it so far and no issue. It looks great and matches my bike nicely.

I was not expecting a difference in the ride. I let my previous chain go for 7,000 miles on a stationary trainer. It was fine. But when I took the first ride on this DCL chain, wow, what a difference. I should have changed it 6,000 miles ago. Acceleration is so smooth. The transfer of power is immediate, visceral. You feel connected to the bike, part of the machine, more powerful.I was expecting it to be quieter though. It isn’t loud, it just sounds like a typical chain, a smooth chain, but it has a presence.Great ride. Highly recommended.

This is my second KMC X10SL blue chain & I love them. Does what you expect (shifts well & lasts a long time, about 7,500km last one). It arrived very quickly & was about $30 cheaper than anyone else on line after searching for about 6 months (I wasn't in a hurry).

My bicycle came with a non coated KMC chain as part of the original equipment...it served me well. I have Sram force/rival components so I replaced the chain with a Sram chain.I never paid attention, it was suppose to be less prone to stretch, longer life, so it added a little weight...better service : a little weight, so a swap of sorts. Serviceability was about the same..about 2K+ miles per chainI installed the KMC X10SL DLC...what a difference from the Sram...Quieter, quicker to shift smoother. I noticed a difference when I installed it and set up/adjusted the drive chain. I did not give much though to the need for adjustment between chains.It will be KMC from now on! I do believe this chain makes it quieter and smoother than a stock standard chain. I will update this to reflect wear and serviceability

Nice chain in cool color combos but the shifting performance on XTR (2013) is very poor when compared to the proper Shimano chain (HG-901 is what I used) as it lacks the proper asymmetrical design. Night and day difference. And the Shimano chain was nearly 1/3 the cost. So...cool looking and well made chain that will serve you well as long as it jives with your cogs.

I bought the KMC X10SL DLC Bicycle Chain to replace the chain on my Dura-Ace 7900 groupset. It wasn't that the Shimano Dura-Ace chain was terrible; in fact it was smooth and quiet...in the beginning. But, after several rides, it's started to "act" up insomuch as gear shifts weren't as crisp and it got noisier. Further, it just seemed to wear down quickly. So, I read about KMC in some forums and thought to give it a try.The KMC out of the box is a thing of beauty. I opted for black and red and it looks great. Down the road, I might even give black and silver a try as others suggests to match the cassette. Anyway, installation was simple, particularly with the missing link locking piece. I certainly won't miss buying pins for the Shimano chain when I wanted to clean it.In terms of ride, the first few rides were amazing. It was crisp, very quiet and perfect. I was immediately pleased. Recently, I got caught in a rain storm, presumably some sand got kicked up from the road, and despite my efforts to clean it perfectly, it's not as deathly silent. It still shifts crisply and cleanly. Further, it doesn't make any grindings sounds that my old Dura-Ace chain would make when it got a bit dirty or old. But, it does have a "mechanical" sound in certain gears that the old Shimano chain didn't make. It's not unpleasing, but it is a little bit different to the ear. I almost like it.Anyway, so far, the chain has been solid. My hope is that it wears much longer than the old chain and I'll really be able to 5 star it.

My Cannondale Synapse with a SRAM Red component group originally came with a KMC X10SL chain. The chain was relatively quiet (the Red cassette wasn't) and shifting was good but one of the links froze up after 1600 miles even though I lubricated it every 100+ miles. The LBS replaced the chained under warranty with a SRAM Force. Shifting wasn't as good so I tried an Ultegra, then Dura-Ace, then a SRAM Red chain and still had shifting issues and chain noise.So I returned to the KMC X10SL chain for a second try. Amazon had the X10SL DLC So I decided to give it a try. The KMC box is impressive, the red and black links are sharp looking and the chain came with a quick link. The chain appears to be bi-directional and when removing the extra links, the pin came out easier to one side than the other.Shifting has returned to being very good and for my situation was worth the higher cost. I'm anxious to see if the diamond coating lasts. If I didn't have shifting issues I would be using the Dura-Ace chain.
