Sommelier Waiter's Corkscrew with Zebu Bone Handle

LEA

Our history

The Laguiole knife is a high-quality traditional Occitan pocket knife, originally produced in the knife-city of Thiers where 70 of the French cutting tool production comes from, and in the small village of Laguiole, both located in the Massif central region of France. Laguiole became associated with a specific shape of a traditional knife common to this area. Aubrac is a small village in the southern Massif Central of France. Heritage of the Auvergne volcanoes bequeathed to the former Rouergue region, the Aubrac plateau stretches over the southern Massif Central straddling the departments of Aveyron, Lozere and Cantal.

While many companies produce lower-quality products using the "Laguiole" name to suggest an association with France's cutlery region, which is known for quality, Laguiole en Aubrac is an authentic manufacturer of high-quality products actually made in that region. The craftsmanship of this beautifully handcrafted corkscrew is immediately evident. It arrived in an attractive wooden presentation box with the company’s name and logo etched in the center of the lid. This corkscrew and serrated foil cutter, which I chose in zebu bone, is a work of art. The components are expertly fit and finished, and it feels smooth and substantial in the hand.Straight out of the box, the corkscrew hinge is slightly stiff, but I suspect this is intentional, as it will likely loosen up slightly with use.Once opened, the corkscrew functions well, and is sharp and easy to use. The serrated foil cutter, which wasn't as stiff on first opening, also works well. This beautifully crafted corkscrew would make a wonderful gift for any wine enthusiast, and I highly recommend it!

I'm a Sommelier in a Michelin restaurant, I open 100+ bottles a week so I always prefer having quality tools to do the job. I bought this key to give it a try, always heard good things about the craftsmanship. It came in the mail today and although the quality is amazing and it feels great in the hand it's nearly unusable as a new wine key. The knife is so tight it's very difficult to open and the worm is also so stiff that it takes a lot of force to open.Being on the floor of a restaurant in front of a customer, while holding a bottle in one hand and this key in the other is sadly not an option at this point. I'll keep it for at-home use, hopefully with some time it will loosen up and I can use it at work.

High quality and elegant. Beautiful to look at and to handle. It elevates the aesthetic experience of opening a good bottle of wine.
