Introduced in 2002, the Flea is another departure from the classic ukulele form. Created by Dale Webb, the Flea features the same hybrid design as the Fluke: a unique composite construction of wood and injection molded thermoplastic. The combination of wood soundboard and acoustically resonant thermoplastic body, gives this instrument an edge over the traditional standard ukes. It has a rich and bright sound, is comfortable to hold and stands up on its end as well. Known for its easy play-ability with a full 14" soprano scale and generous string spacing - a favorite for seasoned players or a perfect first uke. Its durable construction and meticulous set up is ideal for class or travel, weighing in at about one pound. Fleas come standard with Nyltech strings.

I love this Flea! It feels great holding it, it's easy to play, and it sounds amazing. I've heard other laminate sound board with polycarbonate body ukuleles and they can't touch the sound this one makes. Rich and warm, from a plastic soprano? Get out of here! I purchased this Flea because I wanted a soprano, I have an all mango wood tenor, a mahogany concert, an all polycarbonate concert, and a laminate concert, and I thought having a soprano for travel would be nice. I had borrowed a Kala Waterman, an all plastic ukulele, to take on a trip and it was hard to play and sounded dreadful. The best thing about it was it fit in my carry on bag. Had I had that ukulele as a beginner, I would never have progressed at all, it was so unpleasant to play. I tried the Flight soprano, another wood laminate polycarbonate hybrid. It's very playable, but I didn't love the sound. This Flea has great action and playability and sounds great with good volume and pretty nice sustain. It would make a great ukulele for a beginner as well as a great ukulele for someone more advanced. The Flea is very playable with the strings it comes with, although they are thick and seem stiff to me. I plan to change them to fluorocarbon strings and the Flea will then be absolutely perfect. By the way, it has a flat bottom and doesn't need to have a stand. I place it on the table next to my chair so it's at eye level and easy to pick up and play. I'm thinking this will become my favorite ukulele! If you're thinking about getting one, I'd say go for it. I'm thrilled with mine.
